Overcast
Total Time = 1h 11m 52s
Overall Rank = 17/228
Age Group = M 40-49
Age Group Rank = 3/19
Pre-race routine:

drove to Sioux Center, ate two of my power bars, set up while waiting to swim, tried to stretch, mostly waited.
Event warmup:

not enough
Swim
  • 05m 32s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

WAtch issue delayed by a couple seconds. Didn't go after it as hard as I could have.
What would you do differently?:

get the damn watch right, blitz it
Transition 1
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Better with the shoes this time. Need to keep the buckle all the way out. I taped the tongue to the buckle, which helped.
What would you do differently?:

Take the buckle strap all the way out.
Bike
  • 43m 30s
  • 15.53 miles
  • 21.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Hilly, lots of mud from farm equipment, seemed uphill mostly coming back. didn't pain cave it too much. Tried to eat nutella tortilla towards the end. Had a very good average however. Can't complain.
What would you do differently?:

pain cave it
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Took a little too long to get my feet out of shoes. Still working on that. But mostly much better.
What would you do differently?:

get my feet out faster
Run
  • 20m 55s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

My 5k PR, regardless of event. Dude that got second in my age group passed me. I held with him for half mile or so but he lost me on the last incline. My best ever run though. Felt good right off the bike with long strides.
What would you do differently?:

Not lose that dude on the hill.
Post race
Warm down:

drank water and walked around. Got my warm up on and tore down transition. Not enough stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just mental toughness. More urgency in transition. I use them as rest stops.

Event comments:

Indoor transition area was fabulous. Really enjoyed myself. Will be back. Great field. Great bakery in Sioux Center.
