Subject: Lumberman Tri

Anyone done this race at the end of July?  The wife is suggesting this one tied to a family vacation.  Feedback on the course?

Yes, I did the oly in 2009 (its first year) and 2010.  They worked out some of the course kinks in the second year.  The first year the run course was not marked well in spots and I actually ran off course for a minute or two before realizing and turning around (and still placed 3rd woman overall just to toot my own horn a little on a Monday Laughing)

Year two was great, no complaints.  The run around the lake is pretty cool.  It's a nice little homey spot with a cool, small town vibe.  The swim start is a little rocky but they put mats down the second year which helped.

Parts of the swim are so weedy that it was like swimming through a wet bag of hair, no joke.

I was wondering about the swim.  As a younger person in my late teens and early 20's I did a bit of partying up there.  I recall the lake being weedy and seems like I had a rash when I made it back down.  It could have been my other activities.

I think the wife has taking the boat and staying up there for a few days.  If we do that would be Tri-for Life Oly one weekend and Lumberman the next.  Where did you all stay at?

I honestly don't recall it being weedy but maybe I just blocked it out Smile  I can tell you that my skin is pretty sensitive and I didn't have any issues swimming in that lake.

My mom lives in Roscommon which is less than an hour so I generally stay there.  I have stayed at the Holiday Inn express on the main highway that runs through town also.  Not so family vacation-y but it will do for a quick place to crash before a race.

It was the only race that I did last year that I didn't finish in the top ten overall, (finished 11th), so maybe that's why I don't like it.

Had an awful race.  I hated the run around the lake.  It was boring, hot, no scenery.
