Anyone?

This will be my third year running.  This was my first marathon in 2010.  Great course.  Hoping the later start (May 19th) doesn't mean warmer temps.

I am doing the half, it's my first time at the event.  Yesterday's Bloomsday has me rethinking my goal time a bit.  Not that you can trust any of the extended forecasts for the area, Accuweather likes to go out 25 days!  High of 69 and considerable cloudiness is what they show.  By the time we get there it could be hotter, clear or snowing!

I'm in for the marathon.  My wife is going to do the half.  This will be my seventh marathon, first in Spokane.  Looking forward to a great weekend.

Last year was sunny at start, moving towards cloudy with pleasant sprinkles at mile 22.  The sun can be a killer as we're so used to running under clouds all winter and spring that it is a different heat than used to.

Go get em' in the half.  It'll be a great race for you!

Welcome to the Inland empire pops.  Hope to see you at the start line.  Shouldn't be too hard to find eachother with the other 200 loonies crazy enough for running the distance!  This is my third Windermere and fifth overall.  This is by far the most enjoyable local marathon run.  Straight and flat.

A full 3 weeks before Boise? Wow, I wish my legs recovered that well...

Probably not the wisest thing to do but I ran a marathon end of March and monitored my recover and ability to train pretty closely over the subsequent days as kind of a test.  After a week, soreness was gone and after two weeks I think energy levels were mostly back.

I really just want to enjoy the experience and if it does end up costing me a few minutes at Boise, oh well.  The memories from Spokane will way more than offset those few minutes.

I have a few logistical questions.  We wouldn't get in until late Friday night so I wouldn't have time to scope out any of the venue before the event.

We will be staying downtown and walking to the Arena where the shuttles leave from.  I see that is on the North side of Riverfront Park.  How long of a walk is that from the Davenport to the Arena?  What time would you plan to get to the shuttle?  They start running at 4:50 but I don't want to stand around too long before race start.  Does the same shuttle drop off the half marathon folks as my wife will be doing that distance?

Thanks.

Pops.  I mapped it on map my run and it is .8 of a mile walk.  You will walk N. on Post until you hit Main.  Turn right (east) on Main and go 2 blocks to Howard.  Then you'll walk North through Riverfront park.  You'll pass the splash pad water park first.  You'll continue on North .5 miles and go over the blue Howard bridge in Riverfront park.  This is the bridge we finish the race on.  Cool.  Keep going North and you'll leave the park and the walking/bike trail and the arena is directly North where the shuttle p/u is on Howard and Cataldo.  I checked the website.

I've never ridden the shuttle, but it can't be more than a 20-25 minute ride to Start of Mary in Post Falls.  I'm a little further away, 5-10 minutes, and I'm giving myself 30 minute travel time on race day.  The Half Mary start is along the way, as the Mirabeau Park is in the Spokane Valley on the way to Post Falls ID, where the Marathon starts.  I would think the shuttle would leave the arena, drive to the Valley and drop the Half Mary folks off on the way to the Mary start.

Hope this helps.  The website doesn't have a ton of info about this.

Weather is looking pretty good.

50 at race start

54 at 8:00

57 at 9:00

61 at 10:00

65 at 11:00

5-6 mph breeze SSW and clear skies.  I thinking I'll head to the start with a long sleeve pullover and dispose of early in the run.  I saw no mention of Gel being provided so I'm planning on carrying my own.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

I carry 8.  I was surprised at like mile 18 and 22 last year as they had some available, but I have carried my own for last 2 years.

Thankful the weather is cooling off.

Aid stations have water, Hammer Heed and Hammer gels.  I was going to live off the course for the half but, Hammer gel and I do not get along at all.  Luckily, I will only need 1 gel for the half anyways, so I will bring one and be set.  Weather looks to be ideal, Good luck everyone

Unnoficial time is 3:32:45, a marathon PR for me.  I had my goal of 8:00/mi up until 21 miles.  Then I had a 10, 9, 10, for the next three.  I was still set up to get it with 2 8:00 mi's the last 2, but couldn't pull it off.  Several times, I staved off a hurl, more from overhydration rather than overexertion.  I just lacked the legs to exert the effort to get 3:30 today.

How'd everyone else do today?  Beautiful conditions today.

This was my first ever half, set a lofty 7 minute pace goal and pretty much hit it with a 1:31:48.4. I was 4th in my age and missed 3rd by only .3 seconds! Weather was amazing, course was great too with people cheering, volunteers, etc.
