40th street and above everything is fine.  The further you head downtown the worse it gets.  So don't head downtown.

Everyone has power 40th and up.  Everyone below does not and or has flooding issues.... So if you staying upper west no issues.

When your in midtown / central park area you wouldn't even think a hurricane passed thru. The area where I would be most concerned is the start of the race in Brooklyn, but Im sure they have it cleared up.

In terms of dining most restaurants should be re-opened above 40th, but DEFINITELY MAKE RESERVATIONS because due to the lack of power most people have to dine out + half of the city is closed + marathon = mess.

Good luck on the race.

Oh and don't be that out of towner marathon runner who runs on the sidewalk barefoot in the rain because that is your style / your trying to look cool.... Our sidewalks are dirty, we just had a hurricane so there is debris, it is cold out, and god knows what else has touched those sidewalks (seriously).

... Yes I did see someone running like this the other day.

Power is supposed to be mostly restored to lower Manhattan today. That will go a LONG way towards returning the city to normalcy very quickly. Right now you have Upper Manhattan which is business as usual, and lower Manhattan which is a disaster area. People are saying its like the Capital and District 12 in the Hunger Games.

Sorry folks. It didn't have to be this way. You can thank our friends at the sensationalist news media outlets for whipping this into a firestorm and giving the mayor no choice.

Hope you'll be back.

Just run around the park 4 and a half times. That was the route of the original New York Marathon.

If you're in NYC for the marathon, some local runners and triathletes are trying to organize marathon runners to help the relief effort. If you're here and you'd like to help, look them up.

Wondering if anyone heard from the marathon officials yet today. Today was supposed to be the day they would email out instructions on how to re-enter for 2013...

Mike the email did go out today and the website is going to open up tomorrow at Noon so you can choose 1 of 3 options, refund, entry into the 2013, 2014 or 2015 NYC Marathon or entry in the 2013 NYC Half-Marathon.
