Subject: RE: 3 weeks from Climbing Camp Just finished my climbing camp in North Georgia. 4 days riding the fun parts of the old Tour de Georgia. Day one-only about 44 miles about 4300 ft of climbing.
Day two-82 miles over 9300 ft of climbing, brutal day, cold rain the last 20 miles. Not fun descending 4 mile descents in slick roads, really made me appreciate the pros.
Day 3-62 miles, only about 7000 ft of climbing but it did include Brasstown. The 2.5 climb up Brasstown gains about 1300 ft. and was brutal, proud to say I didn't have to stop, but was crawling at about 4 miles per hour. Great weather.
Day 4 short recovery day-I needed the recovery. Nice 25 mile day with "only" 1700 ft of climbing. Overall over 200 miles, almost none of it flat. Most of the climbs ranged from 6-8 percent. A couple really stuck out however the before mentioned Brasstown of course and Hog Pen. Hog Pen was relentless and steep over a 10% grade for miles and miles.
I learned a lot from the pros that ran the camp. And learned that I can handle steeper, longer climbs than I thought I could. The next local RR with a little climbing is something to look forward to now. |
