Run
Comments: First marathon ever. I had trained in VFF, switched in and out in the two months prior due to some foot pain. Ran in Brooks Defyance. I was worried poopless I would not make the distance. Got to the race determined just to finish, regardless of pace. I was hoping to break 5 hours using Galloway run/walk method. I was using a 4/1 ratio minutes run/walk. 10k was 1:03, which was my pace. 13.1 was 2:22, which was still within my goal pace. At mile 15, the wheels fell off and at mile 16 the 4:55 group passed me, and I had no gas to chase them. At mile 23, one of the volunteers yelled out, "you are almost done." I smiled back and said "I was done 8 miles ago, I am just not finished yet." Awesome race, and even considering my abysmal showing, I really enjoyed it. I have already signed up for next year...I will reach my goals. :) What would you do differently?: Not much. My base suffered due to a medical condition which has now been rectified. I fully intend to kick ass next year, rather than just be content to finish. I loved the experience, the racing, and the support. I have never seen so many hilarious signs ever. My favorites were "This is the world's worst parade ever." and "Fast girls have better times." Oh, and I barely beat the two awesome guys dressed in Elvis costumes, so one stretch goal achieved. Post race
Warm down: Found the family in the chute, high-fived them, and laid down on the grass and let the kids pummel me with kindness. What limited your ability to perform faster: Limited base. Last updated: 2012-05-09 12:00 AM
