Subject: Getting out of the wetsuit quickly?

I'd love to get some tips and tricks on how to get out of the wetsuit. I've tried some open water swims with my new wetsuit and have used the body glide liberally, but I'm frustratingly slow getting out of the legs.

Do you peel the legs down and inside it out as you go?  Do you push the whole thing down sort of like panty hose?  Do you inch it off?

I know you can't use petroleum products, but can you use vegetable oil?

Some people like spray on Pam.  I haven't  found I needed it

Here's what I do.  Run up to T1 with wetsuit down to waist.  Reach down, pull the wetsuit as far down both legs as possible, pusing each leg down to calves.  Then I step on one side and pull the other leg up.  Hopefully i've pushed down far enough, the leg comes right out.  Repeat for other leg.  While doing this I am putting on my helmet /glasses and trying not to tip over.

Second what Chris said, get down to waist, then push down as far as possible on legs, then stand on each leg and pull the other one out.  Also put a liberal supply of body glide on your calves.  Where have you been swimming?  I'd like to get as coupel of OWS in in teh next few weeks.

Echoing the above.  One thing I did last year that really helped was put a little body glide on the outside of the wetsuit down by my feet and some body glide on the tops of my feet.  Once inside out the wetsuit slid quickly over my feet.

I personally don't have experience with a wetsuit in a race but I went and watched a race 2 weeks ago. The water temp was still chilly enough that wetsuits were allowed. Anyway, I saw several guys take their suits off before they got out of the lake and threw it over their shoulder and jogged to T1. It seemed like a good idea since the wetsuits come off so much easier when they're good and wet. Just a thought...

Great ideas.  I'll try standing on the pant leg as I pull it out.  That might do the trick.  I suppose that means I have to pull some to overlap my feet first.  I'd been sort of rolling/pushing it down so that the leg would bunch up around my ankle.

Chris, I swam in Cedar Lake a couple of weeks ago, then swam at the town beach today. Our town beach is along the harbor.  It's very shallow, so you can stand up anywhere.  It was pretty crowded, so I felt a little silly, but I got over that pretty fast.  I'm LOVING the wetsuit.  It sure does make it easy to swim.

At my last race I saw a group of women slathering their legs with some VO5 hair conditioner and they swore that it really helped them get out of their suits quickly.

I also have a lot of trouble getting the darn thing off my calves and have used tons of Body Glide which helped.  But I think at my next race I'll try also applying BG to the outside of the legs and see if that helps.  In my case, and maybe yours, the problem is that there's this incredible suction created and no matter how hard I pull I just can't seem to break it.  Short of sitting down and just pulling with all my might, I can't get it off my calves easily.
