I am always amazed at how high these professional runners pick their feet up in the back.  They almost kick themselves in the butt!  When I try to run like that, I get so tired so fast.

Being new to running, I have never seen that video - that was cool, thanks for sharing.

I've seen this one a few times.  In addition to watching Solinsky's incredible finish I really enjoy listening to the Flotrak announcers go Bat$@#% when he gaps the field.

I didn't even have the sound on and it gave me goosebumps

Oh to be able to make running look so fluid and effortless - what an athlete!

2 things:

1) He probably could've been a few seconds faster if the runners he lapped would've given him the inside...

2) It had to be the compression socks :-P

Yeah, it was great. Now Solinsky has to miss the Trials due to:

The hamstring he tore from his pelvic bone last August, the one that gave out after a 120-mile-per-week training program, the one he had to have surgically reattached with four titanium screws, is sending a message.

But we do have Galen Rupp. His 26:48 last year will go a long way to helping the US in the 10,000. The question is, will Galen be there at the last lap. If he is, he has the speed (he and Mo Farah, training partners under Alberto Salazar) to hang in there.

Rupp's 26:48 ( never mind the GREAT Kennesa Bekele)

Both videos are unbelieveable.  I don't know that I can even sprint 100 meters as fast as these guys run that last lap.

The announcer on the second to the last lap

"61 and that's gotta hurt". You think. My fastest lap ever was in high school. I ran a 64 and I almost died. I was a 4:39 mile/9:35 two miler too. LOL

I know. Bekele is a beast. Rupp too. One race, not sure which, his last mile was a 4 minute mile. It will be interesting in the Trials and the Olympics.

Here it is. The 5000 meter final of the US Track and Field Championships between Solinsky, Lagat ( who admire soo much) and Rupp..the last mile was 4 and sub four for all three..

Solinsky ran 58.3 (from 600 to 200) as he and Lagat opened up 10 meters on Rupp with 200 meters remaining. Rupp was not quitting and gave it one final effort to bridge the gap, but Solinsky and Lagat both had a little something still in reserve for the final 100m. Coming off the final turn, Lagat surged by with 80 meters remaining to win, as he ran his last lap in 56.79 and the last 4 laps in the 3:57.80. Solinsky had closed in 3:58.57 and yet had come up a half second too short. Rupp closed in 4:00.04 and it left him ten meters back in third.

Bumbalough managed fourth, but was fourteen seconds behind, all from the final four laps. Tegenkamp hung on for fifth after launching Solinsky to the front.

This was one race that lived up to the hype. Before the race, if you told Rupp he'd close in 4:00-flat, we bet he would have taken it. Same thing if you told Solinsky he would close in 3:58. The only problem for them was a man named Bernard Lagat. Lagat's finishing speed is legendary in the 5,000m and it has brought him World Championships gold and silver.
