Hello!  Like so many others I am new to triathlons.  I have my first sprint triathlon on July 14th - Tri! Ballantyne.

I grew up running with my dad.  I did many fun runs and 5ks.  At the age of 14 I ran my first marathon.  I did my second one at 15 followed by a few half marathons.  After I got out of high school, I stopped running and being quite as active.  College and getting married will do that to you.

I'm 29 now and have 3 kids with one on the way.  A couple years ago I set a goal to complete a triathlon before I turn 30.  So here I am.  I am currently training to get back into shape with not so much focus on competing.  With 2 months out I am up to 8.5 miles on the bike (15 mph), 5k running (8:15 mile), and no swimming yet.  I hope to hit the pool or nearest pond in the next week or so.

Hi Timothy,

Welcome to BT and congrats on your fourth wee one!  My best advice, as you don't mention much in the way of swimming in your background, is getting into the pool as soon as you can.  Lots of great info and support on the site.  Check out the Beginner link above the ad banner for a good place to start.  Good luck!

Thanks!  I do plan to get in a pool very soon.  I can swim; however, it is not one of my strong sports.  Thankfully, the sprint will only be a 300m pool swim.  I still need to focus on it though.  I hope to take advantage of these next few weeks.
