The actor that played the Principal/Detention hall teacher died of cancer.  Paul Gleason.

 

Info:Best known for playing Principal Vernon in the movie "The Breakfast Club", Clarence Beeks in "Trading Places", and Deputy Chief Dwayne Robinson in the movie "Die Hard", he appeared in many other film and TV roles as well

Didn't the actor that was the principal for Ferris Bueller die also?
