Subject: Watts per Kg question

I just got my Quarq installed and my copy of "Training and Racing with a Power Meter" hasn't arrived yet. I'm trying to get a basic understanding of what the numbers mean as I go along.

When y'all talk about watts per kilogram, do you mean average wattage, FTP, or something else?

It's generally watts per kilo at FTP, i.e., sustainable for about an hour.

This chart gives you a pretty good idea. Generally, most professional male bike riders have a W/KG @ FTP of over 5.5, with TDF winners well over 6.0.

To give you an idea, a pro rider weighing around 150 pounds would have an FTP of 400+ watts! Top riders - Evans, Schleck brothers, etc. - are higher.

Yeah, but they don't have to run 31 off the bike.
