If I wasn't heading down to Kentucky I'd be there... I'm heading out today after work instead.

Up at Bald Lake? (I don't get up that way much.)

Maybe, but I was hoping to get a ride in on Hines Drive right after they close the road at 9 a.m. I wouldn't be ready to swim until early afternoon at least. #triathleteproblems =D

At Island Lake....Trout Lake is a short walk across the road, down a dirt path from the Kent Lake parking lot.

It's a nice little trail run too (Going to and the trail around the lake), but I've never swam there.  What makes it such a good swim?  Zero traffic?

Good gravy, too many Trout Lakes. When you Google it the first one that comes up is in the UP.

Would, say, 2-3 p.m. be too late for you? And how is 96 right now? I know the Milford Road exit was still closed as of last weekend.

To many other plans this weekend, so I won't be able to this weekend. I had hoped to go swim with Zero2 afterwork today, but it isn't looking good. Looks like all my swimming will be in the pool this week.

I could do 2-3pm.  I'm not sure on 96 thought, I don't make it out that way too often these days.

I'll PM you my number. Let's plan on checking in beforehand in the morning. (I'll need to get a state park pass before my tri next weekend anyway, so this actually works out well.)

Two Saturdays ago it was a pain.  The next day it was fine and there was no problem last weekend either.  I'll be sure to fill you in if traffic sucks this afternoon.

I love it because of the zero boat traffic and because the water is usually fairly clear...you can see the bottom most of the way across.  Out and back is about 1400 meters (give or take).  And, usually once it's mid-summer there are so many folks out there (training or just swimming for fun) I feel totally comfortable going by myself.  I feel like there are enough people around and they can see me.

Kristen, I've swam Kent and Spring Mill many times but you make Trout sound very appealing Smile  I'm headed out of town for the day on Saturday but am heading out to swim on Tuesday night if you or anyone would like to meet up.  I'd love to try Trout.  I can get there by 5p.

I think Trout Lake is so much better.  It is a bit of a walk to get back there, but unless you are in a big hurry, it's worth it.

I just might actually be in town this week (crossing my fingers that my boss doesn't send me out last minute to a customer site).  I'll let you know as soon as I hear for sure.

Traffic not a problem today.  And I made the crossing from the Kent lake beach...the water gets a bit chillier once your leave the beach, but still fine.  And holy weedy!  Almost the whole way across there were weeds hiding just below the surface, annoyingly scraping at my face and hands.  I know I couldn't touch bottom...I didn't expect weeds in water that deep.  Ah well, I didn't drown.

I was hoping to get one more OWS next week...I'm just not sure it'll happen.  If things work out I'd enjoy meeting swimming with you again, but for now I am tentatively out.

I've only swam at Kent Lake once or twice...during the Island Lake Tri's.  And I remember it being really weedy then too.  Which is exactly why I like Trout Lake.  Not much back there at all.
