Got the bottle of wine in last years Fall race - today I PR'd by 17 mins (2:24) and it was only good enough for 7th AG 27 OA, too many speedy guys out there! Fun day, time to train hard and go under 2.20 next time

I did OK. Panicked in the water, just like I expected. None of my mantras (it's the same water, you trained for this, etc.) were working. So I flipped on my back and sculled the whole &%%*ing way. If you had to swim over a pink cap sculling at the end, I apologize. Surprisingly, I feel OK knowing that if I have to scull the entire 800, I can. My new goals for triathlons this summer is to go farther and farther out before I panic.

Bike was pretty good. The rain started really coming down about halfway through. I didn't have the crappiest bike out there and actually passed a few people! I killed it on the run, like I always do. I pick off people one at a time, bam bam bam. I ended up 9/15 AG, so... top ten! =D

Is it just me or did this seem pretty competitive? Is it because only the die-hards are ready to roll for an early-season tri?

Also, I noticed that the chip straps didn't seem long enough, like there wasn't enough velcro to keep it in place. I was worried I'd lose mine, too, but thankfully it stayed put.

Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! Official results are up! And I did better than where I was when I left the race:

10th place AG/21 = TOP HALF!!!!!! =D =D =D =D =D

16th on the swim! That means there were five people behind me!

11th on the bike, aw yeah, and that's with a 300-pound steel Huffy

5th on the run, BOOM, 8:28 m/m pace, not too shabby considering the hills and the rain.

Overall I'm very pleased! Now to spend the rest of summer getting comfortable in the open water.

32/36.  Yeah..I'm not too excited at my results.  Swim screwup cost me a good 5 places...and we wont even talk about what the backstroke/relaxing cost me.  It'd be nice to have done better in the bike/run...but really, I spend so much more of my time adding mileage for IMAZ rather than doing speedwork...that's just gonna be a tradeoff this year. I did pick up places with each discipline per the plan.  This was just for the experience anyways, but I am a male with an ego...

Glad you made it through!  I heard some people panicked as soon as they hit the water and had to be pulled from the water...

Also, did anybody feel there were an abnormal number of people having bike mechanical issues?!  I couldn't believe how many people I saw on the side of the road on the bike course!  Okay, so maybe like 5-8, but to me that's a lot!  I don't recall ever seeing so many people pulled over...

Dang, michgirlsk, you're speedy. I'm glad we're in different age groups. :D You know, I did think about getting pulled from the water, but my stubbornness won out over my fear. I told myself, "You have not been waking up before 5 every day to train only to quit 100 meters in!" Haha, it worked.

Miles--congrats on finishing!!!  And for sticking with it and staying in that water.  Because you had the courage to do that, even if it wasn't the swim you hoped for, at the next race you will feel so much more confident in the water.

Michgirl--congrats on your AG bottle of vino!!

Lloyd--sounds like a good showing for you even if a few elements (like getting lost in the swim, done that before) didn't go as smoothly as we would like.

As for me, finished 1:20 and PR'd for this course in all three events.  So chip strap loss and all, it was a good day Smile  Hope you guys race it again in August!

I am happy to say that this was my first olympic distance triathlon ever!  I've been working hard all last summer and winter for this distance and I'm happy to say I've got that monkey off my back.  I finished in 2:30 min w/o walking or stopping at any point and was happy for that but was 10th in my age group.  I compared that to last year's age group results for that distance and I would have been 3rd!!!  So ya I'm thinking this year was more competitive than last years.  I would have been on the podium in last years which would have been icing on the cake but I guess it just depends on who shows up.  I'm from the West side of the state and all I can say is what a great park and well run race!  My swim was good at 28 min., my bike I laid off because I just had finishing not necesarrily racing in mind and my run was good.  Not knowing the area I'm glad it was a 2 lap course because this took some of the unknown away.  Great park!  Loved the bike course-hills but only small ones.  Greatly run race I loved the computers to look up your times.  Thanks elements events!

Yep definitely a lot more fast guys there than last year - my time would have got me 3rd OA at last years fall race. I liked having a lot of fast people though, gives you something to train for!

Just had a chance to throw my numbers in the logs from this weekend - i noticed this in the olympic results:

16  28M18852:402:54251:280:52130:522:18:43

Surely this cant be right - the guy dog paddled the swim, blitzed a 40k TT in 51mins and finished off with a sub 31 10k - just to put it in perspective i think Jonathan Brownlees 10k time in San Diego was a 30:30

Is this guy a closet ITU Duathlon champ.......

I'm not sure about this guy's numbers but I can tell you that they had a ton of timing issues per the RD.  One major one was that many people lost chips--myself included.  It's in Kent Lake somewhere!  My times were wrong (though the RD agreed to fix some of them based on my own timing).  At some of the transition exits and entries I was able to give my number to someone who was standing there with a keypad to enter it manually but that person was not there 3 out of 4 times so those numbers for me are all lost.

Those are crazy results...I must have done much better than the record shows

I went out yesterday to look for your chip, Amy...Sorry I couldn't find it.  I did swim from the beach to the I96 bridge and back (1.3miles per garmin) in the same time it took me to do the oly swim on Saturday...  quite interesting.  Hopefully I can manage that at Grand Rapids in 2 weeks!
