Subject: RE: should I have a bike tear down before IM I'll beg to differ slightly from other posters. I do all my own bike maintenance and I would highly suggest, given the amount of miles on your bike, that a cable change is in order. I'm doing LP this year (next month now - gulp) and just finished a complete shifter and brake cable swap out. I am anal about cleaning and lubeing my bike and I was appalled what shape my original ones were in. Also removed and cleaned and re-lubed the bottom bracket and did same for the headset assembly. I'm glad I did it and will have peace of mind knowing that a fully serviceable bike won't be an issue on race day - one less thing to worry about. Learn to love your bike and how it works...there is a ton of info on the internet and doing it yourself makes it very affordable and fun. |
