I don't mean occasionally, like dogs, but habitually, as a species.

Somebody here at work says they do, but I think she has something against pigs.

I work for an ag news company and one of the guys here said "Oh hell yes they do. Remember that when you're enjoying that slice of bacon."

I think pigs generally eat whatever's in front of their snouts.

But, would a feral pig dine on its own kaka, you know, if it wasn't cooped up and fed like they do in industrial pork operations?

It's spelled caca. And yes, a pig would eat you given the chance...

I think it would if it was in front of its snout.

But I'm more of an expert in cooking and eating them, than in what they eat.

I had a friend in college that was partially eaten by pigs when he fell in the pen.

My puppy loves frozen crap (his or the other dogs), which we have named "Poopsicles". It's freakin' disgusting.

From memory and I haven't seen it since it was in the theaters but here goes:

A pig eats and sleeps in sh*t.  I ain't eatin' nuthin' ain't got sense enough to disregard its own feces.

How about dog?  A dog eats its own feces.

I don't eat dog either.

But do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?

Well, it ain't filthy, but it's definitely dirty.  But a dog's got a personality.  Personality goes a long way.

So if a pig had a better personality it would cease to be a filthy animal?

Well, he'd have to be one charming m-fing pig.  I mean, he'd have to be 10 times more charming than that Arnold on Green Acres.

Ok, that's it, both you and Jim have been added to my training logs friends list for your stinky posts.

So, if I understand correctly, pigs eat anything, poo, people, homework, their own words, crow, at the Y, their hats, their belts, and their shoe soles.

Am I right?

Yes. One person here (we have lots of farmers who work for us) said they'll even eat silverware and the plastic bowl in which the vegetables were served. My sister used to live on a farm and to be cruel we'd put the leftovers we fed to her pigs really close to the electric fence just to watch them get shocked. We were cruel as kids. It was funny though.

Yes you are right.. Pigs will eat pretty much anything.  And like Jims friend exerienced, even humans.  They don't do this out of hunger or because they are malicious, but because they are very, very curious animals.  The way they satisfy this curiosity is by using their snouts and chewing on things... poop included.

In high school I did a volunteer trip to an island in the West Indies.  I helped out on a farm one day and one of the jobs was to go into the crowded chicken coop, pull out the dead ones and feed them to the pigs.  Gross.

I didn't last long on the farm after having to back out of all the jobs they gave me - the dead chicken one, finding chickens with bloody bums and sticking medicine up there, even getting the eggs out from under the hens scared me.  I was reduced to washing the eggs so they could sell them - who knew eggs are covered in all sorts of gross stuff when they come out?  There went my dream of living on a farm someday...

I still have issues eating chicken.  When I was in India I saw chickens eating out of the "River of Poo".  Well that's what I called it, but it was pretty much a river of open sewage. Guess what our host family fed us almost every night while we were in India?  That's right- chicken.  Luckily I didn't see this until 1/2 way through my trip.  For the rest of my trip I passed on the chicken.  When I got back to the States, I couldn't eat chicken for awhile.
