Subject: recently drafted into the NFL...blows a 0.24, DUI

Justin Blackmon, wide receiver out of Oklahoma State...#1 wide receiver drafted...pulled over and blows a 0.24, 3 times the state's legal limit.

This moron just lost a ton of money (he hasn't agreed to a contract yet).

Here's my idea.  Tell me what ya think.  When an NFL player is pulled over for DUI, whatever blood alcohol % he blows on the breathalyzer needs to be attained by this player at game time the next Sunday.  No substitutions.  60 minutes of game time action completely drunk off his butt.  Let him really feel the scorn of the fans and his teammates.  Whaddaya think?

Sounds like he was disappointed that he got drafted by the Jaguars and was just showing that he really wants to go to Cincinnati.

Here's a better idea.  How about he loses his job because he cannot perform his duties (drive, probation, classes etc..) like a majority of other people who get DUIs.

Yep, but I'm wondering if BigFuzzyDoug has a past life-lesson that would fit this and wondering what his Dad would've done?

He'll have enough money for people to shuttle him around wherever he needs to go.

Which leads me to my next question. Why do movie stars, sports stars, etc. etc. etc. not just get a cab or a car service home when they're drunk. How stupid are these guys knowing that if they get caught (and at 0.24 you KNOW you're drunk!) that they could potentially lose millions? Looks like that $30 cab ride probably cost Blackmon a few mil ... more on.

By the time you get to the point where you’re being drafted by the NFL in the first round, you’ve basically been listening to people tell you how great you are for a decade. And you probably haven’t heard the word “no” from anyone but your mom since you were in Jr. High.
Not surprising that these guys think that:
a) they’re indestructible
and…
b) that the rules don’t apply to them.

What needs to happen is a prominent sports figure needs to kill somebody in a DUI induced accident.  Only then will the leagues make this and other criminal activity a priority.  Sad but probably true.

Don't forget the Rams' Leonard Little.  In '98, Little killed a woman driving drunk (.19 blood alcohol, ran a red light just 100 yards into his trip home from his birthday party)  Little received a sentence of 60 days in jail and 1000 hours of community service.  He was also suspended 8 games by the NFL.  (after this DWI was wiped off his record years later, in 2004 he was arrested for DUI again)

The Brown you referred to was Donte Stallworth.  In '08 he killed a pedestrian in Florida (.12 blood alcohol, and the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk)  Stallworth was suspended for an entire season without pay.  Rumor has it that the victim's family in Stallworth's case received an out of court settlement...somewhere between 300k and 5 mill.  Stallworth's sentence was 30 days in jail, effectively 2 years of house arrest, no driving for 5 years, and 8 years probation.

My beef isn't with the NFL as much as it is with the justice system.  60 days, 30 days of jail?  For killing an innocent human being?  That's just crazy.  Perhaps stiffer penalties for DUI would be a good idea.

Vick killed dogs...served his time...lost tens of millions of $ (if not $100 million)...and since that time he has saved many more dogs than he killed through his actions bringing awareness to communities in which dog fighting was common.  To equate what Vick did with what Little and Stallworth did is quite a stretch.

Agreed. A guy from my hometown of Omaha had seven DUIs and never served a day in prison. In fact I just found the story. The guy he hit the last time now has lifelong injuries. Amazing. He's the son of the owner of a bank in Omaha. I'm guessing that it's not all on the up and up.

Cuz these super smart people get even SMARTER when loaded.

What's not smart about drunk driving or unprotected sex?  There is another way to lose millions.  Fathering a  half dozen babies and taking care of baby mamas...
