Yes, you read that right:

General Open Swim – Lake Nokomis
Free, authorized, independent open-water swim opportunities are available at Lake Nokomis Main Beach Tuesdays from 5:30–7:30 pm, June 12–Aug. 14.

I understand the swim will be from the Main beach to the 50th street beach and back.  It goes for 2 hours, so how many laps can you fit in?

I am now going to readjust my training scheudles so that swims are scheduled for Tuesdays.

See you there!!!

A quick bump - first swim tonight.

If you're a woman, and anxious about open water or need a swim buddy, stop by the LUNA Chix table (or "spot" whatever it is) and we'd be glad to help you.  Or, just stop and say hi.  I won't be "working" tonight personally, but will be in future weeks.  I will definitely be swimming, though!

Shore to shore on a GIS computer application is approximately 600 yards. Anybody measure it with a GPS watch?

Nope. I just took the word of the Minneapolis Parks people, which also made sense compared to the regular mapping options.

You're too funny!

I think the 600 is accurate, but obviously it depends on how straight you swim... Also, we didn't exactly run into the beach and turn around. We turned inside of the 50th Beach swim area in elbow high water.

Unfortunately the LUNA Chix will not be in attendance this week, we have a meeting.  I am kind of worried about the weather, too.  But I will definitely be there (with a bunch of other LC) the week after.

The weather isn't looking to promising, but if it holds I will be there tonight.  I really need to get some time in the water.

Was a good temp for swimming last night though the water was not exactly "calm."
The swim out was pretty mellow - the return trip to the beach was more of a challenge.
Some people on the shore used the term "whitecaps" to describe the conditions."
I don't know if I'd say that... but did find myself drifting a bit.

Good to meet ya boostedcvc! See ya at Lake Marion.

I should be there as well, weather pending. I'll bring the Garmin to get a decent distance estimation.

Oh wait... I don't swim the straightest without a black line beneath me. See my last attempt at an OWS.

This graphic is awesome!  I wish I could include it in my new sig line...

Agree with you Scuff, the weather was great, but the current and wind were less than ideal.  I didn't know it was that windy until I got to Nokomis.

It made for a good OWS training session though!

Anyone looking to get some good training in, Tuesday nights at Lake Nokomis is great.  The lifeguards on shore and in the water were doing a great job.

Anyone know how warm the water is? With nokomis being so small, am I going to roast in a wetsuit?
