Who's doing it?

It's my first race this year, and my third EVER!  I'm getting nervous...

I don't know if this is a new notice or not, but I noticed this on the website today..

Note:  In the event of severe weather the race will be converted to a duathlon.  The race director will make this determination based upon safety factors.  Sorry, no refunds are available in the event that severe weather causes the race to be canceled entirely.  Summarized details as follows:

That was there last year. Standard language. 2010 was pretty choppy and they didn't cancel. I would think it would have to be pretty bad.

Good luck to all! I'm missing it this year. Definitely a great race.

FoggyGoggles - 2012-06-14 3:58 PM I'll try to make it with camera in hand. Let's hope the rain holds off!

Yes, let's hope it does, but right now Saturday morning doesn't look that great.  It will be my first race this year and I planned to go hard and see what kind of shape I am in, but if it is raining I will take it easy on the bike for sure as I have no desire to go down hard.....

They would cancel the swim if there's lightning, for sure.  There's not enough time to delay the start before they have to start opening roads again.    I would be very worried if the lake is really bad but they do the swim anyway, since I am a scaredy cat.  We shall see...  I hope the weather forecast is as wrong as usual, this far in advance.

Checked the forecast this morning and it looks like the rain will / might hit around 10:00AM. So plenty of time to get a good race in.

I'm going to get a ride in and meet my wife and son at the race site. I'll probably be wearing bib shorts and an IM jersey. Who and what should I look for?

Yeah, I think the weather forecast looks slightly more promising.  Knock on wood.

I will be there.  I know you know what I look like, but to help spot I will be wearing my light blue LUNA kit.

Good luck everyone. I did this race the last two years and really enjoyed it. They didn't cancel the swim in 2010 and it was pretty intense. If they do cancel the swim it will be for a good reason.

They had to rescue someone in the first 100 yards or so that year. They apologized for making us wait. That was nice, but truly if you cannot wait for someone to be rescued, that would be disturbing.

Wet, yes!  I thought it was fun, though.  The rain really picked up for a bit during my run so I got in a good amount of splashing on the trail.  It was quite a chore to triage the muck and grime covered clothes & equipment when I got home!

I'm glad you and the fam were there Foggy!  Also, let's hear it for Bikergirl.  Podium!!

I had a great time!  I had a really good swim for me, and good bike and a terrible run.  I kind of took my time in the transitions (But tried to save time by leaving my helmet on for the run).  Thanks to Foggy for reminding me that I had it on!.

Now I need to learn to run, I could literally shave 20 minutes off my time!!

I noticed in the results that you could have beaten the guy ahead of you with faster transitions...  Every second counts!

FoggyGoggles - 2012-06-18 8:14 AM We made it out to see BikerGrrrl and STG get through T2 as the rain was turning off and on. I was able to snap a few pictures and convince the family to stick it out to see STG finish, but mother nature pulled a trump card on us just after he crossed. I like the venue so this one is on my radar for next year.

It was nice to see you for that passing second, thanks for coming out!  Yep, this is a great race.  I am definitely going to sign up next year.  Just be aware, the race opens in October and sells out in January.

I'll need to re-think the socks and road bike shoes.  I was about as far away from the bike out as you could be, and I walked fast in my road shoes through the muddy transition after i spent time putting my wet socks on..  If I switch to my mountain bike shoe/pedal set up, that will be faster..

I have tri shoes and Look Keo pedals and had no problem at all.  The nice thing about tri shoes is they are meant to be worn wet and sockless.  They have padded insides, good ventilation, etc.  I love my tri shoes and wear them all summer for all sorts of riding.  I have these and they are my third pair of tri shoes and I like them the best: http://trisports.com/shimano-sh-tr31-triathlon-shoe.html

Emily & Jerry,

I am going to try and upload the photos from the tri tonight. Would you like me to send them to your address or post them here?

Because I am vain, and look terrible in tri clothes, I'd prefer to have them sent directly (any with just me, anyway).  Thanks!
