Wanted to introduce myself. I am new to tri's, my first will be July 8 in TN it is an Olympic Tri. I started getting back into good shape after returning from deployment earlier this year.

Swimming is my weakest area, I have been swimming at the pool on post and have had the incredible luck of having an older gentleman who has/is a competitor in the Ironman. He has been great helping me work on some of my mechanics.

The other day I decided to test my endurance. I did 23.3 miles on a mt bike and a 10k run in 2hrs 54min. I think that is a decent start.

I hope to learn a lot and open to suggestions from anyone.

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan, welcome back and thank you for your service. Welcome to BT and triathlons!

Yep, keep working at it in the pool. It's also important that you get some open water experience if at all possible before your tri. It's completely different swimming in open water. Here's a BT article about it that's very helpful:

Congrats on committing to do a tri!  Love the fact that you are starting off with an OLY - it's a challenging event and the help you are getting from your IM friend will be helpful.  Although your test of endurance seems like youre off to a good start!  Good luck!

Welcome!  I used to live in Fairbanks Alaska myself.  But, wow, that was 25 years ago!  I would love to hear about how things have changed there.  I'll write you a PM later when I have more time.
