Comments:

I felt great on the swim, nice and smooth, effort in check, and finished feeling great, but my navigation was TERRIBLE!! I got WAY off course at one point, and took me a while to work my way back to where I needed to be. There were some fairly aggressive women in my wave... One swimmer and I kept crossing paths, and a couple of times she forcefully grabbed my legs and shoved them out of her way. I was pretty surprised at that, women don't usually act like that in races ;), but it didn't really affect me, I kept on doing my thing. Bummed that my navigation was so bad because it really affected my swim split.
What would you do differently?:

Pay attention! When I got off course, I was just kind of in the zone, and not really sighting.... Also need to work on swimming straighter in open water!
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

Long transition... I was at the far end and it's a bit of a run out to the bike start, but I could have moved a little more quickly...

Comments:

One of my goals for this race was to try and master correct bike pacing. I've had a history in longer events of over-doing it on the bike and paying on the run. Felt like I did really well at pacing in this race. The power meter definitely helped. Just kept my power target in mind, and didn't let myself be bothered if people were passing me, especially up hills. Heart rate and power were right where I wanted them to be.

The only problem with the bike was.... I overshot the turn into transition after the second loop, so had to turn around and go back - which cost me a little time. Bummer....
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I know the course better so I don't miss something as important as the turn into transition. Felt pretty stupid about that... But otherwise, I felt like the bike was spot-on where I wanted it to be.
Transition 2
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Again, a pretty long distance from dismount line to rack and back to run out... Even though the time was sort of long, it was mostly due to that. Pretty average T2 for me.
Run
  • 2h 06m 11s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Best HIM run ever - partly because the weather was so great, and partly because I think I finally got the pacing thing down - a well-paced bike set me up for a good run. Kept the first 5 or 6 miles on the easy side, then let myself pick the effort up a bit for the last half of the run. Good, even pacing/negative split on the run.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor sighting on the swim, missing the bike turn in, and having to wait in a couple of porta potty lines, but since this was more of a "training" race than a race-race, it's all good... A little bummed to miss a sub-6:00 HIM, as I know I could have gone sub-6 yesterday, but overall, pretty pleased with the way things played out.

Event comments:

Very well run and enjoyable race.

Congrats on a great race!!! I agree, that bike-in seemed to take for EVER!!!  it was a really long distance.

Too bad we did not get to meet.

Best of luck in the rest of your season!!

Congrats on a great race!  I have no doubt you'll crush that sub-6hr goal next attempt.
