Anyone know what the walk from transition to the swim start (I guess either direction) is like?  Seems like a long walk barefoot with wetsuit in hand.

yea, you definitely need to budget some time for the 1.2 mile walk on the beach.  most just wear their wetsuit (for warmth in the morning) and walk near the water on the hard sand.

they should give us credit for a 71.5 !

Good to know.  Forget that it's not 98* in the morning there like it is here  Speaking of, looks like they're still on track for dialing up some perfect weather!

If the weather keeps, we will all have a fantastic day! Either way, the day will be fantastic I am actually thinking of bringing arm warmers for the bike... what a change from this summer's weather!

race day is coming up in a few days - whos fired up??

little swim tomorrow and then taper for me.   looks to be a great day if forecast holds - i think the racers and race director deserve it after the recent 'du's' in 09 and 11.

have a great race everyone.

For some (insane? deluded? crazy?) reason, I am holding on to hope the lake will get with the program by Sunday morning and we all will have a 70.3.

How are everybody's last few days going?

I'm thoroughly enjoying the taper!  The weather is STILL promising to be fantastic.  Come on, Lake!  Trying to get good amount of sleep these last few days...

This may sound crazy, but my bride and I (we're both racing) agreed that if the swim gets cancelled, we WILL go back to the hotel and conduct the swim there after the bike/run.  Can't imagine how dizzy we'll be after 1.2 miles in a hotel pool, but we will get the swim in!

If the swim gets canceled I'm gonna be so let down.  After having the bike shortened in Boise and then almost registering for Muncie (thank God I didn't) this is my last shot for a HIM before the end of the season.  Sometimes you just can't win for losing.

Good luck everyone.  I'll be crossing everything on my body till sunday morning in the hope the swim happens.

Chris

I flew into South Bend, IN last night and the weather was already calmed down. Today it's really nice, a bit chilly in the 60s, but lower wind (around 10mph). The rip current warning was a result of a storm that has already passed. I was going to swim in the lake today but got in so late last night I slept in So tomorrow early I'm going to get in the water to see how it feels. I think we'll be ok, the forecast for the next couple days is really perfect. And try to remember the only reason they ever cancel a swim is for our safety. A healthy, fit young man died during the New York Ironman last weekend. No race is worth risking your life.

How fun! We're neighbors I went to the expo today, lake was choppy but I've seen it far worse. The wind has already died down, the temperature is divine. I think we'll have a nice day Sunday!

SO excited about this weekend!

Today was a nervous day.  FIRST nervous day ever associated with this event, and now, I'm fine.  Either way, it'll be a fantastic weekend, my husband and my two little boys are coming with, so whatever happens, I'm going to have a blast!  Normal Half-Ironman this time, that's my mantra hehe

Looking forward to our awesome event!

Not sure it was talked about on this thread, but they are offering priority sign up for IMWI '13 after check in. I was the first athlete to sign up yesterday! Hit it right when they opened. If anyone is considering MOO, it's a great way to enter stress-free.

4:45, last runner by my check point, I can go home for a bike ride.  Hope everyone did as well as they were hoping.  I was blocking traffic at Enterpirse and M-63, if any of you said "thanks" as you passed on the bike it was appreciated!  Heard about a half dozen DNFs get picked up through out the day, no major medicals and no big crashes, all in all a good day from our perspective.  Fabulous day for a race, I'm ready to read some race reports.  Good job to everyone out there.

Finisher! Woot!

We all got different stories that got us to here; mine was one of the injury/little training time variety. I was hoping I did enough to get me to the end, and despite my best efforts to sabotage myself, I did! While I haven't had too much time to dwell on it, I don't know if I could have wrote it up much better: Highs, lows, anxieties, drama, and of course the happy ending crossing that finish line! I'll have my race report up either tomorrow or the next; you won't learn much (well maybe what not to do) but should be an enjoyable read.

I did this too; I'm still basking in the glory (and soreness and fatigue) of Steelhead to think much of it but as usual the wife did; she checked online for hotel reservations for that week and many hotels are already booked so if you haven't reserved a room, you might want to get on it!

I loved everything about this race except the ridiculous condition of the roads on the bike course, and the fact that the bike course was not shut down to traffic. The cluster near mile 30 was incredibly dangerous, especially with the yokels who wouldn't yield to cyclists. Placing a cop there would have helped considerably.

And the weather could not have been more perfect!

Where are all the race reports.  I need to read that everyone was much smarter with pacing a 70.3 than I was.  Seriously.  I think race reports are great resource for your fellow triathletes looking at races and wondering how the course was.  If I'm the only one then they only get my I swam good, died on the bike, and walked the run report.  That isn't very good for them to decide to do Steelhead.

Hey Lena,

I just noticed in your signature that we have the SAME exact race schedule for this fall. I'm doing both Fox Valley and Chicago (but I do have a 1/2 marathon through in there the weekend after Fox Valley, but I am run/walking that one with my sister in law, since it's her first).

But with that being said--what is your long distance run plan for Fox Valley? If we were to go with the typical training schedule we would have to do 20 miles this weekend...the thought of doing a 20 miler this weekend makes my legs scream. What is your plan???
