Subject: Garrett Co Gran Fondo - any BTers going?
Looking forward to some fun times riding the hills of western MD this weekend. It looks like the weather up there will be more humane than down here in the cities. Any other BTers heading out to Deep Creek Lake for this one?

I am doing the Savage Century (102 miles, 12,700 feet of climbing).  I plan to start very slow and enjoy the views.

See I'd start very slow and then fade from there!

Good luck to both of you!

Hope to see you there! I'll likely be wearing an orange/red Triple Bypass jersey. I'm in for the Diabolical Double (125/16,500'), because it seemed just too crazy to pass up. It's going to be a long day in the saddle; no plans to hurry for the first few hours.

You're all crazy :-)

I hope to do it next year - maybe I'll be strong crazy enough by then.

Colin, this is my first Gran Fondo at DLC, and I thought that having 125 miles and 16,500 ft (!!!) two weeks after my Eagleman is not very sane.  I will look for the orange/red triple bypass jersey and then will wait for your reportl ...

Good to bump into you at the start Alexei! Hope your day went well. The Diabolical Double was every bit as epic as promised. RR is posted. That was my longest day in the saddle ever. And my slowest average speed ever. The climbs were simply relentless. And beautiful. Kyle Yost and his team puts on an amazing event, and the folks of Garrett County were so welcoming. I had no idea about this far flung corner of Maryland, and I'm looking forward to returning.

Thanks to Felton for the Catoctin training route -- the terrain is very good preparation for GCGF. And thanks to the MD BTers who planted the idea of doing this event. It has more than doubled in size in each of the last 2 years, and I'm sure that it'll soon be the kind of thing that sells out rapidly.

Colin, I am 100% agree.  Kyle, his team, WISP staff, and volunteers logistically organized everything very well.

The route was bold and beautiful at the same time.  I liked it more than the Savageman route.
I did 102 miles in about 7.5 hrs and enjoyed every second, even when it hurt (and it did a lot).

Surprisingly, I do not feel much pain in my legs today.  I had same quick recovery after the Eagleman.
Something I started to do differently during or after a race.

Looking forward to making the Double next year.
