First olympic dist tri Sunday...give me some thoughts on nutrition.  Hope to be out of the water in approx 25 mins, one the bike for 70ish mins, and run around 45ish mins...would like to take in calories on the bike using gels.  I've got one bottle on the bike that I'd like to use for water...I can swap out for new bottle at 1/2 way point.  Keep it simple is my motto, and I'm not overly concerned.  But I don't want to do anything silly.  Thoughts?  Thanks...

For an olympic nutrition isn't super critical. I'd have a good breakfast a few hours before the start, down a gel before the swim, another gel on the bike, maybe some gatorade or something like that on the bike if its hot, and maybe a gel on the run. You really don't need all that much for any olympic. Most people can store enough energy for about 2 hrs, and with the time you have planned to finish, consuming a ton of calories is not that neccesary.

IMHO...I would.not mess with gels on bike and just use sport during of choice, about 16 oz is100 cals and the rest water.....may play wig the ratio depending on temp. You should not need any more fluids on the bike than that. Maybe 1 gel on the run and maybe a gel about 39 min before race starts.Btw...its too late now but next time you should practice your nutrition beforehand to see what works for you.Have a great race

Typically you don't have the option for a bottle exchange on the bike at the oly distance.  At 70 minutes on the bike, which is about my speed one full bottle is plenty.

FWIW, I'm in the same ballpark as you in terms of speed, maybe a tad slower, and I eat one gel at about the halfway point on the bike and one during the run.

With your set-up, you could put 1 or 2 gels in a flask and add some water (easier to get it out and swallow).  Alternatively, you could go with sports drink on the bike instead of water.  I don't think a pre-swim gel is necessary.  Sip on some sports drink pre-race if you want to get a few extra calories.  Water/sports drink as needed/wanted on the run.

Thanks for all the advice!  Not my A race...but still wanted a good plan of attack for nutrition.  Most of my nutrition practice during training is for longer stuff.  Thanks again!
