Tony: I can't tell from the picture, do you have the newest version of the Draft Box? I know the earlier version had a lot of problems with moving around and the lid coming off. If you do have the earlier one Trek will replace it with a new one. If you already have the new one then please disregard all this!!

I'm honestly not sure, I haven't had any issues at all with it moving around and the top has never come off.  I'll grab some better pic's of it tonight and will be trying to remove the inserts.

I did order it from my LBS and it came direct from Bontrager last April (2011).

My bad, I thought you were saying you had problems with losing stuff out of the draft box on the back of your bike. I must have misunderstood.

Oh, haha I thought you were talking about the bento box thing, not the box on the back.     Yes, the lid will never stay on unless I tape it down.  I'll call them and see if there's a newer one available.  Thanks

You can tell the difference easily this way:

The newer version has the support "wings" on both the top and the bottom. The older version only has them on the bottom. It was a poor design and there were a lot of complaints about them. With the newer version as you tighten it down you get support for the box around your bike frame instead of just from the bottom. If you do have the older one, your LBS will get you a new one for no charge from Trek. I hope this helps.

Looks like Photobucket is finally back up.  I can take more detailed pictures if you want, but here's the only pictures I have out there with the speed box showing in them.  Looks like its thinner than the top tube and as the others have mentioned I've never had any issues hitting it with my legs.  Now as for having yard sales on the highway with my aero trunk thing, yeah that's another story.

Wondering how tight the speed box is to your cables?  I picked one up yesterday and haven't put it on yet, but immediately realized that the cables are going to interfere with it a bit.  My arm pads are quite far back (level with the steering tube), so the extensions are back quite a bit as well.  I've also got a reasonable amount of drop creating some bend in the cables.  I wonder if I need to get the cables shortened a bit????

Also, has anyone removed the barrel adjusters from the cables, or just left them on?  Are they really necessary?

It does rub on the cables, but I just split the box between the cables and it doesn't really interfere.  I've had it on for a year and there's a slight black smudge on the inside of one of the cables from wear, but nowhere close to wearing through.

I don't have much drop on my stem though so I can see how dropping it more would make the cable's a little more "in the way".  I have personally never used the barrel adjusters, but I've left them on.
