Pre-race routine:

Race was an hour away and son was a volunteer - that meant getting up very early, making sure the baby was fed, and leaving sleeping baby and husband behind. Banana in the car on the drive down, water, and nerves. I was reviewing the list of what to bring and hoping that I had gathered it all the night before and that everything would just go smoothly.
Event warmup:

I set up my transition area - end rack near the exit. Then, about 30 minutes before the start, I got my wetsuit on and went in the water for a short swim.
Swim
  • 09m 56s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

I have GOT to figure out what's going on with the panic attacks when I put my face in the water. It's stupid. I could cut probably 2 whole minutes off the swim if I could put my face in the water for more than 5 strokes.
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

I'm still new at getting the wetsuit off - but it didn't get stuck like I had nightmares about. Definately room for improvement.
Bike
  • 1h 04m 40s
  • 14 miles
  • 12.99 mile/hr
Comments:

I need more leg strength and more bike time. This is a given. I am happy to report that I stayed on the bike for all the hills - that's a great improvement!! And I really gave it my all and passed a few people on the descents. Previously downhill scared me but I've been working on it.
What would you do differently?:

like every other aspect - more training
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T-2 lumped in with bike time
What would you do differently?:

run faster with bike - practice flying dismount
Run
  • 46m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 14m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

If I don't train more, I will continue to suck.
What would you do differently?:

I felt ok for swim and bike but the negative voices in my head really got the best of me in the run. I could have given it more. I really had more left in me at the finish but was demoralized by the voices in my head. I wish there was music allowed - that helps me tremendously. Need to work on training without music.
Post race
Warm down:

I collected a prize...for being the only woman out of over 200 who'd had a baby in the last 12 months. I avoided all the chocolate being handed out (abstaining). My son helped me gather my stuff and load the car and we headed north.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

taining time. Seriously. I need to prioritize it.

Event comments:

Porter puts on a great race!!

Dilettante or not, you seem to have taken it pretty seriously.  Good job.  And, after having a baby less than 12 months ago.  That's impressive.
