Subject: Please look for my bike frame on side of I-81 N of Syracuse

On our way to Canada on vacation after Syracuse 70.3, we lost my bike off the top of our RV.

We found the bike packing box, the shoes, the toolbag, the seatpost/saddle. But the frame, which was wrapped in a blue quilt and secured with packing strapping stuff, was not there. Perhaps someone picked it up or something. It was a carbon Felt B2, so it is likely destroyed anyway since it must have hit the road from a pretty good height at highway speed. But still, I kind of want to know. So if you see it, please get in touch. I'll be back on the grid Saturday when we reach Toronto.

That's terrible! Did you check with the Highway patrol?

I wish I’d known sooner, although I think I was going the wrong way. You said it was just your frame—what happened to the wheels?

WTC contacted me and apparently someone found it and is supposed to be in touch, but they haven't contacted me in a week.

It was disassembled and in a bike shipping box strapped down to the roof of our RV.

The box came loose somehow from the tie down straps, and everything flew out all over the road. We found my race wheels, which seem OK, and my shoes (very banged up) and a few other miscellaneous items, and the box, but no frame.

Someone must have picked up the frame after we learned the box fell off but before we were able to backtrack and return to the scene of the incident, because we looked hard for the frame and it wasn't there. We did report it to the Hwy Patrol and they did not see it either.

I am anxious to hear from this "Jim" person. My race number was still on my bike, which is how he was able to track down WTC and have them get in touch with me, which was really nice. I am afraid it is likely ruined, since the frame is carbon and fell at high speed from high up.

Insurance company (Nationwide) has been great so far, but I'd like to see if I can get the frame returned in good condition before I finalize the claim.
