Did any one do the aqua bike in Calgary last month. How did it go? What was the bike course like? I'm looking at this race next year possibly?

Its part of the Chinook festival. Its an out and back on Hwy 22x. You looking to do the long course or the short course?

Depends on how the bike training goes over the summer. If I can get comfortable on the bike for 2+ hours, I'm thinking the long course for next June.

I did the half there last month which is the exact same course as the aqua bike…

The swim is nice, small, warmer private lake with 2 loops. In and out of the water between loops.

The bike course is awesome! Out and back from Midnapore to the Kananaskis sign on 22x. Lots of hills, strong climbing is a must, with fun descents. The one thing is that the course can get some crazy cross winds.

I would suggest doing this race to anyone who wants a bit of a challenge. I thought the bike course was fabulous, and the race is really well done, but you definitely want to get out there and ride it before race day.

Hope this helps.

The Chinook 41.5 Aquabike was originally going to be my first race, it turned into my 2nd.  Thoroughly enjoyed the race, met a few good people and such.  It was my 1st open water swim and I LOVED IT!   41.5 Aquabikers started with the Olympics which was awesome, 220 people or thereabouts starting at the same time.  Great experience, water wasn't uncomfortably cold and as mentioned before the ride portion wasn't all that bad.  Hope to do the race again if I can get out of work on Friday, in fact that's my only complaint -  wish the race was on Sunday so I wouldn't get any flack for taking Friday off to make the pre-race meeting.  So if I miss this race next year, it's because of stuff out of my control!
