Total Time = 2h 59m 53s
Overall Rank = 80/200
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 15/21
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4, truck packed, mix drinks, start hydrating, two salt tabs, cliff bar, drive to race (75'), register, mark, setup transition, final check all equipment, chat. This is my one year anniversary of my first tri, which was this particular race. Felt really good. I had focused on this event as an "A" race for the season. I used the 21 week intermediate Oly training plan pretty closely.
Event warmup:

Got on the bike first and rode easy for about 15 mins, 1 or 2 accelerations. Then stretched, drank, bathroom. Then jogged for about 15 mins with a couple of accelerations, stretched, drank, bathroom. Was feeling really good and positive. Lubed up, put on the wetsuit, swam for about 10 mins, then race started after about 5 mins. Tried some visualization... wanted to focus on staying relaxed. Felt great!
Swim
  • 36m 13s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt really good. I still have a problem with navigation. But overall a good swim. About 3 mins faster than last years time, pretty choppy this year.
What would you do differently?:

Be a better swimmer. I need to take some lessons or something. I'm feeling good, but want to be faster. I'm sure noone else feels that way!
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Transitions are something i have never really gotten serious about yet. The strippers had a hard time getting my suit off my feet/heels. I was having a blast and trying to remain relaxed.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster.
Bike
  • 1h 21m 56s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.20 mile/hr
Comments:

Same course as last year. Felt good. Found out after the race my front brake was rubbing!
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on my strength.
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

The gear under our rack had somehow gotten strewn about...made changing a little bit tedious. Still, staying relaxed.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster. Thinking about getting some tri-specific shoes and working on "shoes in the pedals" on and off the bike.
Run
  • 57m 53s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Last year at this race was the first time i had done any running, even for exercise, in a few years and the race hurt me. This year i felt really good, although i would like to be stronger off the bike. overall, a good run segment with pretty even pace the whole distance. Most importantly, no cramping.
What would you do differently?:

Work on bike to run bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice on the head. walk around, stretch, walk, drink, stretch, drink, walk, jog.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being new to endurance sports. My fitness level is excellent. But my muscular power and endurance are the two areas that stand out most in my mind. I also need to continue to work on swimming form and technique.

Event comments:

This is a great event with a lot of really nice people associated. This year is the second running, and it was even better than last year. Plenty of support, a moderate course, and good time of year. i'll definitely make this an annual event on my calendar.
