Just curious.  Those wetsuits look pretty tight.  That and the wetsuit strippers appear to pull pretty aggressively to get them off.  Do you remove your ankle timing chip prior to stripping off your wetsuit?

No.  I just make sure the leg of my wetsuit covers the chip.  I haven't once had a chip come off unintentionally.  Even if your wetsuit doesn't go all the way down to your ankles and the chip is exposed, I still don't think you'll have anything to worry about.  You'd really have to be cranking on the velcro to undo the chip.

No need to remove the chip strap, the wetsuit leg comes off over it.  Much easier than getting it over a 910xt.

My wetsuit doesn't cover my strap and I've still never had a wetsuit stripper pull my chip off.

(That sounded dirty. Maybe it's me.)

Typically no, but one company uses the chips (see link below) that are so HUGE that you have to take the chip off.  I have no idea why it's so big.  Funny thing is that they say these are new chips.  I've never seen them on any other event but two Xterra's.

Nope. Just pull it over the chip. Never had an issue of one coming loose.

Good grief.  Are the participants starting a triathlon, or are they under house arrest?

it really depends on your age group.  If you happen to race mens 45-49, then yes- the chips are very fragile, and if you inadvertently lose it during a race, not only do they charge you like $100, but you don't get a time.

so, you very carefully remove it from your leg and place it on your towel at T1.  Then remove your wetsuit, then slowly and carefully put it back on your leg.  Then you may continue racing me

The suit would come off right over chip anklet no problem.

This is also true in the mens 40 - 44, but next year I hear that age group is getting the better chips.

Once you're moving I guarantee you won't be thinking about the chip until they ask you for it when you cross the finish line.

No. A friend lost his chip while pulling his suit off. He crossed the finish line without it but discovered it was still inside the leg of his suit. Now, I check to make sure it's still there.

I inadvertently pulled off my chip in my last HIM. Thankfully I saw it on the ground just before leaving T1 and was able to reattach it before leaving. It can happen, so be careful!

(I would never take it off before losing the wetsuit, however. It doesn't happen often enough to be worth the extra time.)

I love my 910xt for training and tris, until I need to strip off my wesuit.  The first time was okay but it hit the stop button and I did not realize it until half way done with my bike.  IRRITATED!!!!

I was reading these all seriously and then laughed out loud in my office.  Good one!!

Michael, do you peel your wetsuit off such that it's inside out when you are done?  Hint: the answer needs to be "yes".  So just getting that out of the way.

Then, if your chip is underneat the leg of the wetsuit as you peel the suit off there is no force applied to the chip and all will be fine.

If the chip is below the wetsuit, then you could have a problem because the suit will pull quite hard downward on the chip and strap.  So I strongly recommend rolling up the bottom of your suit leg 1/2 inch, placing the chip there and rolling it back down over the chip before you start.

Quick Release... As I come out of the water, I unzip my wetsuit, pull the 910 off the strap on my wrist (strap stays), get one arm out and switch my 910 into that hand and take the other arm out. Once both arms are out, it goes back on my wrist until I get on the bike. Worked pretty well at Boise (even though I couldn't feel my hands)....

I thought about getting the quick release until I read a review that someone had it kicked off during a mass swim and his $400+ investment was resting at the bottom of a lake.  It doesn't seem likely but man, can you imagine explaining that one to the wife??

I had originally planned on using a 910xt as my only device.  I was going to wear it on my wrist at all times and flip it to the inner part of my wrist when on the bike so that I could easily see the display when in aero.  A caution about that - it's very easy to accidentally hit the stop button on the aero bars/elbow pads.  I'm not a fan of the quick release b/c I can just see it getting kicked off during the swim.  My solution was to mount a Garmin Edge 500 between my aero bars right near my wrists.  It's a perfect setup.
