6 | Subject: Anybody brand new and doing Title 9?As in I'm BRAND BRAND new and thinking about signing up and really giving it a go. I hate running... so that'll be the hardest. I can swim - but I've never raced so I've never done true "open water" swims like this. I ride a mountain bike. See - I said new? Anybody as new as me out there? LOL I think I'm going to sign up and go for it... My husband is a good triathlete. So he'll give me pointers... but other than that, I don't have running partners or riding partners or any of that. I've got 3 little kiddos... so time is not on my side! |

1 | Subject: RE: Anybody brand new and doing Title 9?Hi, My name is Nicole and I am also Brand Brand New New. I have just signed up for the title 9 in september. I am super scared. I have just started swimming in a pool to try and build up my endurance. I can swim but not "SWIM" for distance. I have a feeling this is going to be my weakness. Give it a try. I see it as finishing the race at all is an accomplishment.

6 | Subject: RE: Anybody brand new and doing Title 9?Yes --- I'm not good at any of them! LOL - I'm not a true cyclist and I definitely don't run. I haven't been swimming for exercise in a veeeerry long time!! I did swim conditioning as a PE in college and I wouldn't say it was ever easy for me! So that's the dumb part. I'm not good at any fo those things right now..... I'm good at spin class

Member 111![]() | Subject: RE: Anybody brand new and doing Title 9?A couple good resources are books from local library like "Slow fat triathlete" and others I have enjoyed. http://www.trinewbies.com/tno_getstart.asp . If you are local, I have been looking for a girl workout buddy if anyone's interested in training together! I'm getting a bit lonely on my rides and trail runs. My husband's not into it and my friends think I'm nuts! We could meet at Hopkinton and train that course... Joy Edited by joyct32 2012-07-16 1:07 PM |

6 | Subject: RE: Anybody brand new and doing Title 9?I wish! I'm out in Stoneham, so that's a bit of a haul. Besides - I'm so new and slow, I don't know how much fun I would be! I did run 1.75 miles today. OMGOsh - I hate running. |

New user 8 Waltham, MA | Subject: RE: Anybody brand new and doing Title 9?Hey ladies, Finding this post a bit late, but I'm also brand new to triathlons. Title IX in Hopkinton will be my first tri ever. How's everyone's training going? Has anyone done any of the swim clinics that Maxx Performance has been offering? I wanted to, but had/have a conflict with every date they offer it. |

It's a great triathlon for beginners. The course is well marked out with lots of volunteers to help you out when you get confused - and you will! My training is going pretty well this year, and I hope to at least beat my time from 2 years ago. It's not a high bar to meet, since 2 years ago I was battling a hip injury and couldn't even run a mile without pain. I still consider myself a newbie though because I took a year off from triathlons. This will be my 2nd. My logs are open if you want to see what I'm up to. I'll also add you to my friends. We sprinters have to stick together - sometimes it seems like this site is dominated by people doing IMs. (Not that it's a bad thing - just very different from what I'm doing ETA - I'm up for doing the Hopkinton race course, maybe the weekend before the race. New user 8 Waltham, MA | Subject: RE: Anybody brand new and doing Title 9?rljohnsufl - 2012-08-15 10:59 AM ETA - I'm up for doing the Hopkinton race course, maybe the weekend before the race. I'd possibly be interested in joining you. I had a quick peek at your logs and we're roughly around the same pace, though I don't know what happens when I put all 3 together. Is it generally advisable to do the entire race distance a week before the race? |

Regular 86![]() ![]() ![]() Boston area | Subject: RE: Anybody brand new and doing Title 9?Apparently they don't open the swim course until the day of, so it would be impossible to do the course a week out. Anyhow, I did a group ride today so I probably won't be doing the race course this weekend. I'd recommend any of you doing it if you have a GPS or are good at directions. The course is well marked out the day of (I did the race in 2010). There are a few hills but it's not too bad. Someone please correct me if my memory is wrong! Is anybody picking up their race packet the day before? I'm considering doing it this time. Last time I picked everything up the day of, and the whole thing was so rushed and frantic that I missed the swim warmup. I all ended okay, but I'd like less stress this time. Is there any way that BT'ers can meet up after the race for pictures or to chat? Might be fun. I'm pretty excited! It's a fun race, especially for newbies.

Veteran 163![]() ![]() ![]() Hopkinton MA | Subject: RE: Anybody brand new and doing Title 9?Hi gals! I am volunteering at Title 9. Saturday afternoon I plan to be at packet pickup and helping set up. On Sunday I'm going to be one of many "Swim Buddies" for the first segment of the race. MaxPerformance does a GREAT job and this is a super event. I hope you will all have a blast! I just started tris last summer and I totally love it! Did 2 sprints last year, 2 sprints and 2 Olys this year. I live in Hopkinton and have done some practice OWS there at Hopk St Park with friends. As I understand it - at 8am the park officially opens, the $5/day fee starts and the lifeguards go on duty. Swimming outside the little recreation area is not permitted. We have swum at 7 am with no problems. (We have always worn wetsuits and/or used a noodle, too). Last summer we had weekly OWS practice at Lake Webster in the early evenings after the guards were off duty. Both lakes are pretty clear and have nice sandy beaches. I hope to meet some of you at the race Cheers, Erin |
