Pro 4199![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Bellingham, WA | Subject: Our weatherWith our summer weather being unseasonably wet and cool would you rather that we had extreme heat like the rest of the country? I have been grumbling about the coolness and now with rain this morning I wondered if this was in fact preferable to it being hot. I know something in between would be perfect but faced with the two extremes what do you prefer? |

Extreme Veteran 667![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Issaquah | Subject: RE: Our weatherI was born and raised in the southwest and I would have to say I would definitely prefer a hot (but southwest dry) heat. When I was in college I had no problems at all running mid-day in 108 degree heat in Phoenix, you acclimate fast and without any major humidity you can still do things outside. What I really liked about the weather in the SW though was the consistency of it. Always sunny, all the time. I really dislike the weather here, it seems endless. It's almost the end of July and it's still 60 and rainy and there's no guarantee that it will be any better, at least consistently, even though early Aug. We'll probably have a few weeks of decent, semi-warm weather in mid/late Aug early Sept, but the rains start back again Oct 1 then it's 60 and rainy until next "summer". |

I grew up in Yakima and I've been complaining mightily, especially the last two years, about the weather here. The cooler temperatures aren't so bad, but the rain drives me nuts. I'll take the 100+ temps over this any day. I especially love to ride a hot, sunny day. I spent five days over near Grand Coulee last week and got in a great ride or run every day in the 90+ temps and love, loved, LOVED it! I crave living in weather like that again, but the rest of my family are western WA raised and say "it's hot!" when the temperature gets over 70. I just roll my eyes. Brad |

I took two trips to San Diego already to get some sun, but mostly encountered the marine layer....one weekend in Palm Desert at a lovely 114 felt amazing! Still.....could use a solid week of true summer weather. I feel bad for everyone's races this summer with the rain and cold. RAMROD on Thursday with 0% chance of rain in the forecast....we shall see what happens.

You don't have to go all the way to San Diego - just drive two hours east! Eastern Wash has been awash in nothing but hot and dry (so much so we seem to have a perpetual thunderstorm that won't go away). Anyway - close enough for a day trip! |

That and Penticton will end up being hot next month and I'll have had no opportunity to acclimate. Ah, the "woe is me" Seattle 'tude. |

Humidity, thunderstorms, a little sun on Saturday when we went to Mt Rainier, and now clouds and 60... They're LOVING it! They see it as a major relief from the heat and humidity they've been seeing in Illinois. Me, I'm ready for summer to come back. |

I think I'm going to have to go back over to the east side for the warmth until the end of the summer... |

Veteran 210![]() ![]() Lake Stevens, Wa | Subject: RE: Our weatherFor the most part I have no problems with the weather up here but I grew up in a similar climate in the UK. I lived in Tucson for 12+ years but that was before any attempts at this triathlon stuff and we finally left to get away from the heat. I did play soccer down there and it sucked. I did some running on a road trip to Kennewich and Boise over the weekend and while I admit it was nice to have a couple days of sun and I thoroughly enjoyed my runs and the change of scenery - I couldnt imagine working out on a routine basis in that heat...but that's me. This summer does seem wetter and cooler than normal but we've had some decent weeks too that maybe people tend not to notice. |

Soon as you drive onto the island you lose 10 degrees... 70 and cloudy in Seattle = 55-60 cloudy on Whidbey... Thats my only Beef. I grew up in Puyallup, and I am just getting sick of no sun man..

Extreme Veteran 3157![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Our weatherBonney lake gets colder than other places for its lows in western washington (for instance it was 46/47 when I left my house for my run this morning) and hotter than other places for its Highs (leave work in Seattle and it is sunny and 71, get home in Bonney lake and it is sunny and 80) but I do not mind it. I grew up in Spokane so am at least a little used to super hot, dry weather. Sometimes I miss it but mostly not. I am also VERY light skinned so anytime I am in the sun I have to be super careful. I usually prefer it to be a little less sunny but our mostly moderate temperatures keep me mostly happy. |

I'm off to Vineman this afternoon with race temps forecast in the low to mid 80's. Mornings and evenings are very cool there so I'll at least be acclimated to the start and finish. |
