Overcast
Total Time = 5h 53m 48s
Overall Rank = 299/528
Age Group = 45-49 Men
Age Group Rank = 25/44
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30AM. Two scoops of Perpetuem. 1 banana. 1 cup coffee. Left at 5AM for Chisago City.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 40m 50s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

fine. sighting was good. Kept with group.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Not too fast, not too slow.
Transition 1
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

Took it easy during T1. Didn't want to forget stuff and needed to regain composure. Not upset about time.
What would you do differently?:

With experience, I should be able to these a bit faster.
Bike
  • 3h 09m 11s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.76 mile/hr
Comments:

A little disappointed I didn't get in under 3 hours, but that was probably unrealistic.

Somewhat comic note: Got stung about 6 times by same yellow jacket when it got inside my tri top. Good thing I'm not allergic. (Got stung before race started as well.) He's dead now. I'm not.
Transition 2
  • 03m 22s
Comments:

pretty slow. Not sure that is a problem. Again, needed to compose myself.

Run
  • 1h 57m 41s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Took off a little too fast, but felt right. Then heat got to me.
At the suggestion of friend, put ice down tri top at every opportunity. Helped.
What would you do differently?:

Try to take less time walking through water stops. Stop later, start running again sooner.
Post race
Warm down:

Saw some friends. Chatted. Ate a lot. Had a beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being 49 years old!!! Not yet enough bike miles.

Event comments:

The number of water stations during the run was OUTSTANDING! It was necessary, but you usually don't get this. People putting out sprinklers for the runners was much appreciated. Thank you!

that sucks about the bee stings.  There are enough possible things to go wrong at a HIM then to have to deal with that.

way to have a good attitude about it.

Nice race, and great run! The heat was ridiculous out there, but it looks like you didn't struggle with it too badly.

I had the bee in my trisuit problem last race. Not fun!

Solid race! Sounds like you executed your plan well despite a vigilante bee.
