Extreme Veteran 483 Austin, TX | Subject: A Cowbell Revolution My wife and I have been batting this idea around for a while... last night I did it and I got a LOT of smiles. In my car, I'm now keeping a small cowbell (like the ones that spectators use at races). When I see a cyclist coming towards me, I roll down my window and give them some motivation by sounding the cowbell. Last night, I did it twice on the way to a ride. The first guy was riding solo; he gave me a huge smile and wave. The next was a group of about 8 riders; again, huge smiles and waves. So my thought... why not spread the cowbell love? Obviously it's best to only use the cowbell as a rider is coming towards you and NOT as you are coming up behind them (as they may thing they're being rushed by a charging cow). -Joel |

Its hard to interpret a car horn too. Was that a friendly honk, a get out of the way honk? A I will run you over with my car honk? No idea. But a cow bell! That can only mean someone is cheering you on! Really I can't see how it would even be possible to ring a cow bell in anger. I don't think it would be nearly as startling to hear as a car horn. |

Champion 11641 Fairport, NY | Subject: RE: A Cowbell Revolution What a great idea. I've had a BT cowbell in one of the door pockets of my mini-van (aka the Death Star) forever and I've never thought of doing this. I start today. BTW, I also keep a couple of tubes, a patch kit and a CO2 canister in the glove box in case I come across someone with a flat. Karma and all. |

In Vermont, it is entirely possible that you're being rushed by a charging cow! This is an awesome idea. Now where can I get a little cowbell? I left my giant Authentic Swiss Alps cowbell at my parents' house and they live 8 hours away. Maybe I should steal one off my neighbor's cows... |

Regular 101 | Subject: RE: A Cowbell Revolution GreenMtnLabbit - 2012-08-01 10:25 AM Now where can I get a little cowbell? When I got my bike I had three of my children with me and the owner of the bike shop had a bucket full of them behind the counter which he generously gave to each child. First we made them "outside only" toys then we made them "special time only" toys and now they can only be used at races or parades. All that to say check with your LBS. |

Veteran 660 Northern Illinois | Subject: RE: A Cowbell Revolution I think it's a great idea. I just wish there were other bikers around my area. It is very rare to see anybody biking (we live in a very rural area). If I were out riding and someone passed me ringing a cow bell I would love it! |

We got two for the kids from Ben & Jerry's - right near you! (And they are painted like a cow). This is a great idea - I'll try to get the kids to help me with this. |

That is why I honk (short couple of bursts) after I pass them. I'm hoping that my bike rack and stickers will get my point that it was a motivational honk and I'm in the club. Cowbell sounds fun. Champion 11641 Fairport, NY | Subject: RE: A Cowbell Revolution Aysel - 2012-08-01 1:43 PM There is a BT cowbell?!?!?!?
And how come there are no BT bumper stickers??? We had a bunch of cowbells made a few years ago when we sponsored some races. I have a handful left. I remember desperately trying to give away the last case at the Longhorn a few years ago so I wouldn't have to bring them home and experience my kids coming across an entire case of cowbells. No bumper stickers, but we do have tattoos. |
