Subject: Moving to Iowa...

My step dad has moved off of the family farm and into an assisted living facility and I have been asked to go stay on the farm during the winter and care for it, rent free and all that jazz. So, I am heading to Iowa for the time my husband is deployed...30 miles from the closest pool but with awesome running and biking hills. Taking my city girls and sticking on them on a farm..I can't wait for them to be disgusted by poo..manure LMAO

Southeast cornerish area, Davis county. Grew up there, and probably going to use this as an excuse to Bike Van Buren and Rag Brai.

You're a touch late for RAGBRAI this year, but it's definitely worth doing at least once. And pay no attention to Wgraves--he is a gravel junkie and is trying to convert everybody over to the "dark side". He's been workin' me for years!

Yah RB was a week or so ago, I meant next year. As for the gravel thing, the farm is ona gravel road so there is little choice but to ride at least part of the time on gravel.

I grew up in Sioux City, IA and now live just down the road in Omaha.  I've lived all over the US and been to 27 different countries.  None of them compare to the midwest and I'd never trade it for anything.

i got invited to go to iowa in the winter once. i declined and was sent pictures of 15ft snow drifts which were there for pretty much the duration. NOPE!

i spent a month in nebraska last november/december and it was absolutely the worst experience location-wise of my entire life thus far.  i hope never to return.

hope you have a trainer. its going to be cold. and windy.

When we moved Iowa in 78 our first winter was a beast we have pictures of my mom standing beside 40 foot drifts. :D I love the snow and the midwest, can't wait to get back'home'.

One of my all-time favorite road races is in DeWitt--Paul Skeffington 8k. Cute little race :-)

And...of course, we always had the Saber Relays when we were in high school. Never ever had nice weather at that one. :D

lol, which part of Nebraska did you go to?  You get out of the cities and it can be pretty boring, but even in Omaha/Lincoln it's pretty laid back.
