Total Time = 1h 04m 24s
Overall Rank = 47/80
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 1/5
Pre-race routine:

Had trouble finding the race location. Arrived with just enough time to pump up tires, check in, set-up, and attend the pre-race meeting.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 09m 35s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I actually was #1 in my division in the swim. That tells you how poor clydesdales must swim. I kept saying to myself "long and strong, long and strong." It seemed to keep me focused. I had some trouble around the first bouy. It was very crowded. I felt some fatigue the last 150 yards. The swim time included a fairly long run from the beach to the transition. That may account for a slower time than is standard for me of late.
What would you do differently?:

Need to swim longer sets in the pool.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

I felt the extra seconds in T1 to be worth it. I used my wetsuit and am glad I did for the bouyancy. Total Immersion technique and a wetsuit = solid combo for me. New tri shoes worked great. Start of the bike was up a slight hill. Difficult 1st 1/4 mile but that was expected.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Bike
  • 30m 34s
  • 9.2 miles
  • 18.06 mile/hr
Comments:

I have shown some improvement on the bike but it is still my weak point. I am improving but have plenty of room to do better here. That is a good thing - I enjoy riding. My solid performance in this race is due in large part to a short bike course.
What would you do differently?:

Need more saddle time.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Time included as part of the bike. I had a great T2! I was out in a flash!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Run
  • 22m 49s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a GREAT run! I was only second in my division by .5 seconds. I was in da ZONE! I passed the guy who got second in my division during the final mile. This same guy smoked me during the 1st race of 2006. My new and improved bike position left my legs in great shape for the run (thank you CHAVEZE!)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Continue with the brick workouts.
Post race
Warm down:

I get dry heaves sometimes after a race. For some dumb reason, I ran into the park out house to pee right after the race. The smell and my normal dry heaves drove me to the edge. I almost puked! Bad decision on my part.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cycling performance.

Event comments:

The directors did a much better job with this race. Congrats guys!!!! And thanks!

Got to race with ONESLOWDOC, TLILIS, and GENNX. Enjoyed the Bt-er's! They were encouraging along the race course and super to hang out with after the race. ALL of us got hardware in some tight and competitive divisions. Go Team BT!

Congratulations on the Hardware, John!  Looks like you had an AWESOME race yesterday.  First out of the water, first in AG, I wouldn't have been able to keep up with you Yesterday!

I tend to have the same post race problem as you.  But if the heaves happen, I know I've given my best effort -- Kind of my measuring stick.  Gross, I know

Thanks for the great inspiration you are to me and the other BT'ers.  You keep us all motivated to do our best.

Congrats again on a great race!

nice race report! Great splits on your miles and congrats on the excellent swim!! I was wondering about the bike course ... it went pretty fast for me, almost too fast to be a true 10 miles!

I'm anxious to see the "official" results, I don't have fancy enough gadgets to keep accurate track of my own splits, but I'm just concerned because on the plywood board they had my name last as #84 but I most definitely was not last - there were quite a few people behind me on the bike and the run, and I only got passed twice on the run.  I'll just assume they got their slips from the racing bibs out of order and my chip time will reveal me to not be last
