Subject: The woes of overtraining So I've been training for my first Oly tri 2nd tri ever in this first year of triing on Sept 8th and this past month has been a misadventure in overtraining or dealing with training obstacles. I am right at my peak training right now and in the past month I've had 2 peak weeks cut low by some difficulties. 2 weeks ago I had to take time off training because I got very sick. I was able to make up some time at the end of the weak but it ended up being half the time I would normally have done. Then this past weekend I did the cascade lakes relay. a 216 mile team relay race and ran 28. 6 miles and of course that was probably too much and I strained a tendon in my knee. I went to the doc she said nothing serious but if you rest it it will heal faster and be better in the long run. So I'm taking the first part of this week going to the pool alot because I need work on my swimming and doing aqua jogging. But this will be the 2nd week this month where I should be at peak and am having to rest instead so I want to know am I in trouble or should my base of fitness carry through. Before this it looked like my times would put me at the back of the front of the pack for my oly. I don't care about placing but I want to make a strong effort. Here are my current training totals: Minutes Hours Miles Run 2,414.25 40.24 145.01 Run Bike 2,668.7 44.48 1866.33 Bike Swim 5,770.2 96.17 Total 10,853.15 180.89 Here is a link to my training plan http://tinyurl.com/2012BTolyplan https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0An0IwBbMISvUdFdFMEY0Y241ZXNuWWZsT0NqVjZQMmc Edited by Tofu 2012-08-08 9:23 AM
