Subject: THANK YOU daily news

hey everyone.

first off, i wish the three reporters from the daily news would take a month and ride a road bike with clipless pedals in central park and then write a report about running red lights, speeding and not giving way to predestrians.

if you get a chance and dont read the daily news go and buy today's edition.   they paint a pretty bad picture of cyclists biking in central park.     also, stating that there are no cops around to enforce the park rules.   THANKS DAILY NEWS!!!!  now i have to be extra careful the next time im there trying to get my miles in besides the fact that i get up way too early just so i can do my riding without predestrians around and horse carriages and pedicabs blocking half the road on the lower east end.

btw, i do know about 9W.   but, gotta change up the workout every now and then.

Daily News always sounds so outraged. They need to chill out.

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/central-park-a-danger-zone-pedestrians-news-investigation-finds-16-cyclists-breaking-25-mph-limit-speeding-road-bikes-article-1.1132150

if anyone wants to read it.

That said, I don't think cyclists should go super fast in the lower loop, since that's where a lot of the tourists are coming in from Columbus Circle. It's just not worth it -- they don't look before they cross, they dawdle in the middle of the road. I think anything on the east side (where they were taking their speed readings) is much easier to maneuver as a cyclist.

I've honestly never had any problems with cyclists in the park and I do the vast majority of my runs there. I have to cross over the drive at 81st street which is at the bottom of a pretty decent hill. I *always* look before I dart over and if I see a bike, no matter how fast or slow they're going, I wait for them to pass (and make any running buddies I'm with wait, too). I know how tough it is to brake coming off a hill like that and it just seems like common sense.

Of course, until all pedestrians start using common sense, I'm biking on 9W.

The good news is that the average Daily News reader has the attention span of a coked-up hummingbird. They’ll be on to the next Outrageous Affront to Life as We Know It in no time.

DN just wrote another articles stating that a cyclist riding a mountain bike ran into a blind triathlete at 95th street area in the runner's lane.   This is the area before hitting the S curve.   Here's the thing that gets me.    DN is reporting that the cyclist hit the runner at 35 mph.   am i wrong to say this is IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!   if anyone knows the road around that area right before the s-curve starts, it's impossible for a cyclist (even a CAT1 cyclist) to hit 35 mph.   btw, the cyclist states that he had bike trouble if anyone is wondering why he was in the runner's lane and didnt see the runner until the last second.

it just gets me that the DN is out to get us and not check the facts.
