I have been so overwhelmed by support from people on this site after my bike disappearance Saturday. I'm more motivated than ever to try and meet some of you all face to face.I will be doing B2B half on Oct 20. We made it into a family gathering. I was really going to cancel the tri with the lost bike, but keep the vacation, since my family and three others were looking forward to the week at the beach. Now that my race is back on, I am psyched about a possibility. We have rented a place in Carolina Beach from the 18th to the 25th. I would like to host a gathering for BT folks Sunday night the 21st. There is an athlete brunch and awards in the morning, I would guess many people would be leaving town, but it seems the night after would be better than the night before, with the areas of being ready for the race. I will be doing the brunch with my Dad and son, since it's on the battleship, and my Dad was in the navy for a few years. We would be back to host by mid afternoon. So who is interested in coming down to Carolina Beach for some post race beers and whatever else? We have.several small children in this group, and will be right next to the beach (not directly on it).

Hi Andy, I'm not up to B2B distance yet, doing my first Oly in September.  However I have been reading your blog and would like to meet you, plus it's free beer right?  If nothing gets in the way I'll be there.

I'm going to up the ante and throw in something for the kids.

If you're going to be in the area with your family, and you have children, you want to come over for this. In addition to providing adult beverages the adults, I will have on hand, a semi-professional children's entertainer. Me.

I do balloon art. And I don't just mean the dog and giraffe that a clown at the farmer's market made. I turn you into an astronaut, or a flamingo, or a princess, or buzz lightyear. And yes, I can make a bicycle. But my penguin and giant elephant are better.

Part of my portfolio is at airweaver.balloonhq.com -

So, the gathering will be appropriate for all ages.

I am doing the B2B half- my first. And live just up the road a piece. I am not sure if I will be able to walk the next day but might be able to waddle on down for a bit. I have a 2 1/2 year old that loves penguins. Never seen a balloon penguin before! Keep us postedPaula

We will be there, I have a 3 year old that love balloon animals, plus the 21st will be my birthday so I would love a balloon bike for my b-day!  Hopefully I will still be in one piece after my first full attempt.

Can old timers like me get balloon dogs without looking creepy? If so then count me in.

Sounds pretty cool if I can convince my wife to stay a little later on Sunday I would like to try and make it. I might be on a stretcher but it would be cool to meet some BT'rs.

I'll make you a balloon dog. Whether or not you look creepy is entirely up to you.

I'm racing the half and I'm down for a BT gathering. Several friends and I have rented a house on Wrightsville, and I'll be there Wednesday to Wednesday, so I'd be up for a training ride or swim in the days preceding the race. Can't wait!

With less than 30 days to the event, I am giving this thread a bump.

Over 500 views here, but only a couple possible rsvps. Any other interest? Not like you're buying a non-refundable ticket. I'm interesting in knowing how much beer to have on hand.

Nice of you to invite us all. I will be heading back home after the race at some point on Saturday so won't be able to make it. Should be a good time though. You should post pictures...:-)

i feel like i'm a bit late to this party, so i guess i need to introduce myself to this group and say how excited i am that some of you are also doing the B2B. my name is Nancy Preston, i live in Wilmington, NC and this is my first half ironman. Hell, i've only been doing tri's for a year, but i've got the bug.

Just wanted to throw my name into the hat and say hello and that i've been reading your posts with great interest, since i'm such a newbie to these longer races. Laughing

Thanks!

I just got the official OK to do one more tri related activity so I am in for the party!i hope I can still walk. I plan to eat at Epic Food Co on Friday. Great healthy food and it's not too far from the T1 bike check in it's in the Forum across from Mayfair. We can have a pre race gathering if anyone is up for it.Paula
