Subject: Running

Hi,

So a little bit of background is probably necessary.  I used to run a lot when I was younger.  I have no idea of how far I was running but it was 4-5 times a week for an hour or so.  I never used to run with a watch.  Anyhow, life caught up and I hadn't run much for a number of years.  When I tried to return, it hurt quite a bit. I made a deal with myself that I'd run until I liked running again.

So....

100 miles or so later, the punch line is that I had a great run today.  Totally crappy day at work but it was nice outside.  I just went out to run.  Ended up doing 5 miles at a quick pace (for me).  Total runners high and I only stopped because I probably should have been at work.  Complete change in attitude.  It's good to be back.

The moment when it just "clicks" is the best.

I am going to toot my own horn for a second.

I have almost four years of 100+ miles per month. Haven't missed breaking 100 miles in a month for that long!

I only post this because I love, love, love to run. Once you have some serious run fitness built up it can be really fun (of course, what comes first? the chicken or the egg?). Until then it can be really hard.

I still have bad days running, but not many.

Congratulations on your breakthrough.

It's a great feeling when everything clicks, isn't it?  So here's one of my favorite quotes (from Pat Teske) for those days when the run is... well.. not so good:

"Relish the bad training runs. Without them it's difficult to recognize, much less appreciate the good ones"
