Even 100 people spread over a full distance course is not many. It would be very lonely. I would not be interested in that.

But I guess I'm one of those standoffish people with money to burn.

I signed up for Ocala HIM and am a bit worried about that, but I am sure there will be one person I can pace with.

Your comment made me giggle.. a bit of oxymoron no?

Signed up for the half in Ocala. Looks really well organized and I'm sure with their pricing we won't be the only ones out there

Makes one wonder what the heck HITS was thinking of when they started out a new race series with Ironman pricing.  I think they would've done much better in 2012 if they had the pricing structure there now offering for 2013.  I know I'll be keeping an eye on things now.

Hopefully they'll add something in Michigan similar to what they canceled for 2012 with a better date.  If they would've run there race as planned it would've been a mess due to weather as the weekends around here have been tough this month, except for today it's either been rainy or extremely windy or a mix of both.  Not exactly tri racing weather.

Maybe they were betting on an increasing demand.  There are three IM races in FL that aren't HITS so when they came along the number of races almost doubled.  Perhaps they were looking to fill in some of the demand for "cadillac" races with WTC races overflowing.  Heck, this may have even been their version of a soft opening.  I haven't heard a lot of negative about the races.  I think with this year's pricing they may be realizing that many of us are looking for great races that are affordable.  HITS appears to be falling right into that slot.  Hopefully it will work out.  I love having a big race in my town.

I did a HITS race in the spring in Corpus Christi. It was probably just because of an extremely small amount of people to begin with, being in deep south texas, but the after-party left stuff to be desired. There wasn't much, but they probably didn't have much of a budget either though. The race itself was very well organized, aid stations were a +1, and everything ran very smoothly. The workers were very friendly too

+1 for HITs, I'm sure its going to grow. 2014 will probably be a booming year.

I have friends who raced the Oly at Marble Falls and they really enjoyed it.

I've been seriously considering HITS, because of price and timing both.  You can almost race every month if you wanted to.  And at each race they apparently have all distances from super sprint to sprint all the way to full IM distance.

does anyone know if they just do multiple laps on their 1/2IM course to make up the IM distance?  That would limit the loneliness factor.

I'll probably do Marble Falls if my friends go again.  Beyond that I'm looking at the mid summer 1/2's.

In Ocala it was one lap for the HIM and two laps for the IM.  They did that for all three legs.  They did the exact same thing for the Sprint and OLY.  If what they did here is any indicator then I'd say they'll do it there too.

The two races I did this year had 1 loop for HIM 2 loops for IM on each event (swim, bike and run).

I'm doing HITS Napa full. With these prices - especially if you register early - how can you go wrong. Napa, wine country, scenery, money left over in the pocket - all good.

Only one thing left unanswered - bike shipping. I'm hopeful that one of the bike shipping companies will support HITS Napa. I've contacted the official bike transport company for HITS - they haven't settled in on their schedule yet this year. Fingers crossed.

Perhaps a triathlete cooperative is in order - local athletes not participating in the event make their bike's available to out-of-towners. Could save us all a lot of money.

If all goes well - maybe Lake Havasu or Palm Springs will be in order.

I did the HITS Half IM at Hunter last year. Very happy with it. Yes, alot fewer participants, but no crazy washing machine swim. Just had a nice smaller venue feel to it. There were enough others on the course. I'll be doing another HITS race this year...probably North Country.

I'm looking at Lake Havasu or Palm Springs for 2013 for the full distance. I'm doing Ironman Boulder 70.3 in August and will see how my training goes before committing. It's great that it doesn't sell out in 14 seconds a year in advance, and for about half of what Boulder cost I can do a full distance at either of those races. I'm pretty slow anyway so I'm used to running alone.

I may do the havas half this year. Did the Palm Springs full last month. It was ran very well I thought, with only a couple of glitches. I will definitely give them my business again.

I raced the half in Palm Springs in December 2012.  I was NOT impressed.  They have a great idea, but need lots of improvement.  See my race report from December 1st for details.
