The new price structure is VERY attractive.... I'm seriously considering the half or full distance in Ocala, FL in March - my parents live very close to Ocala, and it's during my kids' Spring Break, so timing could work out very well - do the race over the weekend, then some time visiting my parents, take the kids to Disney/Universal, etc. It would be nice to know I might be racing with more than a handful of people, though....

Ocala will be my first HIM.  I did the sprint this year.  See you there!

Thinking of doing a few of these races. I like relay and AB options at all distance since I'm unable to run any longer.

Considering, the prices are great. The only thing that bothers me is lack of participants. If I wanted to race alone I could do it anywhere for free. I might try either Naples or Ocala half distance. I checked last years results and there was only Around 61 participants.

I did 2 HIMs with HITS this year and will be doing the full in December.  They are fine, water stops every 10 miles on the bike, every 1 mile on the run as you would expect.  There were 80 HIM and 120 IM I think at my last one.  They seem to be getting more folks as time goes on.  And $150 for an IM is quite a deal seriously.  They start on time, have timing chips had wetsuit strippers, water was fine.  And you can spend the $500 you saved off an IM IM on a really nice dinner.

My wife and I were planning on doing the Galveston 70.3 as our first HIM. However, after HITS announced their new prices we are now planning on doing the Marble Falls in late April.

My bet is that these races will gain in popularity over time.  Especially if WTC keep jacking up their registration fees!

The $75 for the Half in Napa next Spring is all the incentive I need!  $75 for a well organized half ironman event?!  Awesome.  I've ridden a lot of the roads around the Napa course and it should reasonably warm (well, a 55 degree swim) weather and beautiful scenery.  Done and done.  I'm signing up this week.

I am definitely going to consider Ocala for my first HIM in the spring. I live 1 1/2 hours from there. It's so pretty.

I discussed participation with RD yesterday and they are expecting 100 for Full at Ocala and over 150 for Half. I am going to register in Nov. for the Full as this would be my first. Havent done one before because of extreme prices at Ironman branded races. Plus, its reasonably close. It blows me away that people are still so stand-offish about their races and they are basically giving it away. Guess many people have money to burn.

I'm not sure I would like to race a full iron distance race with 20-30 people, but they don't have any races close to NC, so it is a moot point.

Even 100 people spread over a full distance course is not many. It would be very lonely. I would not be interested in that.

But I guess I'm one of those standoffish people with money to burn.

Already volunteering next month at IMAZ to get a spot for 2013, but, if this price structure stays, I'll definately be doing the full in Havasu in '14! This new price structure is insane!

After doing the Augusta HIM, I think I am going back to smaller races.  I loved Augusta but that was partly because I was in an early swim wave and the bike route was still fairly open.  I heard folks with later swim waves would get caught behinds packs of bikes and not be able to maintain pace.

I raced a HIM in April with ~90 folks and while the ride got lonely at times, as long as the support is there, I liked not getting stuck behind folks and unable to pass due to congestion.  The run was a x2 loop so no loneliness there.  That race is doubling in size next year due to a group committing to race it.

I am looking at either Ocala or Naples since both are equidistance from base camp.  Swimming in the Gulf would be cool.

I'm registered for the Ocala full in March.  A little nervous about there not being many folks.  But I couldn't resist the price.  Plus, I don't work December - March, so it was the perfect timing for training.

I've been on the Ironman site many times. I've never even heard of HITS outside of this BT thread. I'm wondering if it might be an issue of people just not knowing...

I am too new to the sport to really even know the difference between the two.. companies?

I signed up for the Ocala race right away after I read about it.

after reading an article about the HITS series in one of the Tri mags I decided to look into and will definetely be doing the Ocala HIM as my first Triathlon outing ! Oh yeah can't wait !! Actually think the smaller registration is a good thing for a first attempt, less people in the swim LOL. Of course better chance of finishing way at the back of the pack I suppose but I will jump that hurdle when I get there ! Wink

I am in for the half in Palm Springs on December 1st.  If it goes well, I am considering registering for the full in Napa, CA in April.  I need a break from WTC and have participated in other independent iron distances races and have loved them.

The Colorado race has peaked my interest but just nervous with how they change venues, switch courses so often. I know a lot of it is out of there hands (ie fires, road construction) but when traveling across the country for a  race would like a little more security on things.

For HIM or an IM distance race, I am slow and a BOPer. I know I would be alone with so few people on the course!

With that said, my tri club is doing the Marble Falls HIM as a team race next year. Not sure how many will sign up though. If someone my relative speed was signed up, I'd sign up then.
