Subject: I saw Michael Phelps Today

So I had just gotten home from work and was walking down the street to go to the Grocery store when I walked past this restaurant at the corner of the street that had outside seating and saw Michael Phelps having dinner with some friends. I did not go up to him and ask for an autograph or picture because I thought it would be rude to interrupt his dinner with friends but I thought it was cool to be a block away from my house and run into a swimming legend whose hometown is the same as my own.

Super cool on all counts but I think I trump you all. I am in Des Moines for the Hy-Vee 5150 and sat near Sister Madonna in the athlete meeting and got to fawn over/chat with her at packet pick up.

Looks like we need a separate "celebrity sightings" thread, which could be updated indefinitely. This would be similar to the ones that the folks at flyertalk.com maintain, except that to qualify, you need to either:

(i) Encounter a famous S/B/Rer while doing anything
(ii) Encounter any celebrity S/B/Ring

... this would mean that seeing Michael Phelps in a bar would count, as would seeing Paul Ryan out on a 20-mile run (sorry, couldn't resist), but seeing Kobe in the airport would not.
