Subject: tri short, er bulge?
Hi folks I know there's been many threads from newbies like myself about what to wear and it seems nothing at all under my tri shorts. But when watching the pros ont TV they seems to have an acceptable bulge whereas my tri shorts just look rather obscene with everthing quite easy to make out. This has led to comments when run training. Am i missing something obvious as this is rather embarrassing?

Best backdoor brag ever.  You need to post this in the singles thread in Cup of Joe.

Everyone is wearing tight lycra and you will not  be unique.

Can you see thru shorts if so look at other shorts.

Comments from who? Your friends? wife/girlfriend? random strangers out on the road?

First, I don't wear tri shorts or any spandex shorts etc. for run training.  I wear them cycling and swimming, both of which don't leave you publicly hanging out in all your glory.  For running I wear regular running shorts that fit loose but have a "hammock" to keep everything in check.

On race day everyone will be wearing similarly revealing attire, so it's more acceptable.

Now, if the shorts are white, or the pad doesn't extend up the front a bit, they will be revealing.  I stick with black shorts where the pad covers the front for a little decency.

It could be worse; people used to wear nothing but a speedo brief for triathlons... try doing your run training in one of those and see what kind of comments you get! Tongue out

Last year a gal at the office did her first triathlon.  The next week she was looking at the race pictures and blurted out...OMG look at this guy in his trisuit.  Of course I knew what the situation was and so I asked just as loudly back across the office:  What? .......You mean there was a guy racing at your triathlon.........that had a penis!??   Laughter erupted in the office.

Just in case someone doesn't click through:

I would second the advice of running in running shorts; maybe an occasional run in tri shorts but I save the tri specific stuff for race day. On race day, there will be so many people in spandex that you won't stick out

Seems like those red shorts would cause a lot of drag in the water

Thanks a lot for making sure that I didn't miss the sausage fest.

The only one who comments on my bulge on race day is me.

Get rid of the white tri shorts (if you are a male)

OMG, that's HILARIOUS! They're on the same team but they're all wearing different helmets! They look so ridiculous! ROFL!

Don't worry, after the swim, there will be shrinkage, remember Seinfeld?

If you want to be modest, where gym or running shorts over the tris once you are out of the water.

I'm sorry, did you just use the words "modest" and "tri's" in the same sentence? Surely you jest..

eta: You realize that in the 'funny BT subjects that follow each other', this one is the ultimate set-uo.

For my enjoyment of seeing the reactions I have been known to pack a Johnsonville Brat in my tri suit.  The looks I see on the fans faces make me forget that I am running.

As a side note involving spandex and padding the banana hammock.  Back in the late eighties a well known big hair band was playing a concert in my town and the lead singer fell off the stage and broke his leg.  My aunt was one of the ER nurses that cut his spandex off.  Sure enough he was ebelishing his maleness with a Johnsonville. Fell right out on the floor as they were cutting his psandex off.  True story.

thanks guys this has made feel a lot better especially the photo, and I have indeed started wearing my running shorts over my tri shorts to hide my modesty. I guess I'll have more to worry about come race day than what people can or can't make out through my shorts.

Some guys were blessed as fast runners, uber bikers or fish in the water.

But some of us just have to make due with taping our junk to our thigh for the sake of modesty
