Pre-race routine:

Arrived at 6:00 for packet pickup
Event warmup:

Not much, swam around just a little
Swim
  • 46m 54s
  • 1700 yards
  • 02m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Actually was thinking during this swim about how much I am looking forward to moving to duathlons. I have put in countless hours in the pool, working on drills, watching videos, reading books, gotten instruction, and I am just a terrible swimmer. Given that this time is slower than what I was able to do in the same lake for a HIM back in May. Think possibly the course was a little long today, but it would have been for all.
What would you do differently?:

Moved to duathlons sooner
Transition 1
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Good transition, 2nd in AG
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Bike
  • 1h 25m 45s
  • 27.96 miles
  • 19.56 mile/hr
Comments:

Purposely held back as I had not been feeling well for the last week and a half as well as knowing what happened here on the run in May.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little more, pushed just a little harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

7th in AG on time, took some extra time putting my arm coolers on and probably would do it again as I felt they helped
What would you do differently?:

Not too much
Run
  • 56m 18s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Knew that this had the potential to be a bad run if I did not set it up properly. Executed the bike pretty well to set up for a good run and not be a sufferfest.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed my gear and packed it into the car

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sickness prior

Event comments:

Pretty decent event, actually like it much better than the half as I think this is a good area for the race but unless something different could be done with the half run course I would never go back for that event.

Good race today, bro! Hot out! Glad to see you did the things necessary to get you through. Arm coolers, huh? I may have to try those in the future...

Maybe it is mental but I really felt like they helped as I was taking the towels only at each aid station and redrenching the arm coolers.  I know here at the Half in May I could not keep my arms and head cool enough, no problem today.
