#623- 10 mi run then 3 k swim, did 300 yd repeats x 10. I usually do a 300 yd warmup, then 25 yd x 8 hard before my main sets, but just kept going with the 300s

#624- 2 mi run after 100 mi bike with 6k elevation gain. Even with the climbing, the metric century the day before yesterday, and the overall training load, it was probably the strongest century I've ridden, my legs were strong right up until the end, keeping my fingers crossed that I can keep it up for the next 3 weeks or so until taper

Sounds great. I'm probably heading back out this weekend again. I usually do more wilderness camping and not much relaxing and beer drinking. Hiking, fishing, and swimming mostly. I'll usually get a trail run or two in also. Lots of fun, but I think I like the sound of your trip better this week, I am beat. Have a good time.

#625- 7 mi progression late afternoon, 3k swim workout early afternoon. Calves were cramping hard on the swim, probably fatigue from yesterday. I ended up doing my last 500 yards with the pull buoy.

Thursday - #347 - 2 fairly easy miles on the treadmill before 1500y in the water

Loosening up again for another race this weekend. This will mark 5 years in triathlon (not counting some stuff I did when I was a bit younger including a couple indoor tris and a relay). This was my first race back in 2010. Swimming wasn't a problem, as I had been doing quite a bit of it at that point. I bought a road bike from a friend, and went for my first ride on Thursday night with the tri being on Sunday morning. I was so green, I didn't even know how to shift down into an easier gear so I had to call her after I worked out to figure it out. I had been doing some running, but I obviously hadn't done a single brick, and I was only about 2 months removed from my first ever 5K race. Let's just say the race didn't go that well for me. Did okay in the swim, finished the bike moderately well, and then probably walked at least half of the run.

I've done the same race each year since, and have gotten better relatively. Last year was an outlier, because I had a bad calf strain in early June and had to take a full month off of running. I was cleared to run two days before the race, so I immediately asked the PT if I could do the race, and he said yes, as long as I didn't push myself too hard in the run. I bought a Batman mask at the store and wore that during the run to remind myself that I was just out there to have fun and not to worry too much about finishing time.

Hoping to push this one pretty hard on Sunday. I'd say I have an outside chance at a top 3 place in my AG, but I think that would be pushing it. This race just has too much running, as the T1 area is about .75 miles from the water's edge and then the actual run course has a couple little hills. The run is where I get passed, unfortunately. Usually when you look at my results in the triathlons, I'll be 2-3 minutes (at least) slower in the run than everyone who finishes ahead of me, and generally you have to look quite a bit further down the results list to see the first person in my AG who I actually have a faster run split than.

Oh well, I'm going to give this one what I have on Sunday as my "5 year mark"...hope to have a good race report on Monday.

Good luck in your race. My first tri was almost 2 years ago. I only figured out how to swim more than 100 yards at a stretch about 2 months before the race. I was just happy that I made it out of the water. The rest of the race actually went pretty well, I had been running for about a year and a half going in, and was riding for almost a year.

Still having a blast, just a lot more tired these days.

#626- 2 mi after 3k swim and 40 mi bike. Just over 200 miles on the bike this week.

Friday - #348 - 2 miles
Saturday - #349 - 2 miles
Sunday - #350 - 6.2 miles

I went to sleep early on Saturday night, knowing there was a big storm coming overnight. I woke up to a text message on Sunday morning to find out that the swim in my race was canceled already, as there were waves crashing over the Lake Michigan pier in Grand Haven, close to where we swim. They had to turn the whole race into a duathlon for safety reasons. Very frustrating for me, as the swim is my strongest part. My hamstring had been pretty sore all weekend, so I was already worried about finishing the race with just a 5K, but 2 of them had me worried. I went out on the first one and it hurt a bit, but it seemed to loosen up while I was on the bike because the second 5K didn't really bother me in that regard. I wasn't quite as fast, and my legs were sapped, but I got through it better than I expected.

Nice. Glad it "sort of" worked out. Get that hamstring rehabbed and you should be crushing your PRs. Only 2 weeks or so away from 1 year. Even though you are a bit beat up, I'm sure you are a better runner than ever.

#627- 18 mi

#628- 2 mi "recovery" day, if you count hiking for 6 hours including up and down a mountain as recovery.

Monday - #351 - 2 miles. Wow, was I sore and slow. It was all I could do to get the 2 miles done. I was :30 to :40 (or more) slower than my normal easy pace, and stiff on every step. Sat in the hot tub for about 25 minutes when I was finished. Hoping it loosens up a little today.

#629 - 100km bike, 5 k run. Bike went very well. With lights and traffic stops I still averaged over 21 mph, which is closer to 23 mph without.

#630- 8.3 mi. Lightning cut my workouts short. Power was out at my gym, so no swim. Big thunderstorm rolled in at the end of my run and I had to call it short of my planned 10 miles.

Wednesday - #353 - 3 miles on the treadmill after 2000y in the pool. The run felt much better than the last few, but the left hamstring is still nagging.

#631- 2 mi after 100 mile ride

#632- 10.5 mi in early evening after 3k swim late afternoon. Running today, I kept my pace where I wanted, but it was tough. I really feel like I am on that fine line and training just about as hard as I can. Every day is a challenge.

Rich - keep it up. You're putting in some damn impressive work. When is your race?

Thursday - #354 - 2 miles progressive pacing after a ~12 mile bike. Had to make it a relatively short workout since I was meeting some friends at the brewery after!

Thanks, Aug. 17th. This coming week is my toughest week, then I will start to taper my run, then will do a 2 week taper on the bike, and a 5 day or so swim taper. Big craft brewed beer fan, hope you had a good time.

#633- 2 mi, also did 3k swim and 40 mi ride
#634- 4 mi in afternoon after 60 min ride/hill repeats, 3k swim in the morning.
#635- 20.4 mi run in 2:40. Not sure where I pulled that out of. All week I was wondering if I'd even be able to do my long run.

Monday - #358 - 2 miles in some decent heat and humidity after a pretty strong 15 mile bike TT.

I checked Ron's profile. He logged in yesterday, maybe just too busy to post. Hopefully all is well!

I am still at it, today was day 972 with 9.2 hot steamy miles. I was camping for 5 day so I was unplugged, no electronics at all and it was great, all that time and then busy after camping with work and family stuff. Glad to see everyone is still going strong especially ImSore. Wow you are killing it training, I sure hope it translates to great results in you upcoming race.
