Wednesday - #451 - 4 miles

Finally put my bike on the treadmill even though it is nice enough to ride outdoors right now. I was looking forward to some specific TrainerRoad workouts actually. Think I might follow their Half Ironman training plan over the winter. Since I had only ridden my mountain bike a few times since my last race (and I don't think I have been on my tri bike at all), I only went for an hour with a 2x 10 min higher intensity bursts. I was amazed how much bike fitness I had lost. Then I was fairly shocked when my legs didn't complain too much at me when I drove to the gym for an easy 4 miles on the treadmill.

Friday - #453 - 4 miles
Saturday - #454 - 2 miles
Sunday - #455 - 4 miles

Okay, brought my mileage back up this past week to 26 miles. Did that with all 4 milers except for Saturday morning when I had limited time. I'm going to try to rebuild a bit of a base by doing this type of thing and will gradually stretch one day out into a longer run.

ImSore - good luck with the knee this week leading up to NYC.

#253 - 3 miles
Since getting up Saturday morning, I've run 12 miles, umpired 4 baseball games, spend 15+ hours on my feet in kitchens, and aced my quarterly observation. I'm excited to have a quality sit this evening.

Rich I hope your knee is getting better with the taper. Good luck in NYC this weekend and I am looking forward to hearing about the race.

Thanks all. Knee is better, but not good. I will not be 100 %. It is getting better with the taper, and I will be able to race ok, I probably wont even notice it during the race (I am worried about afterwards though). I probably lost a bit of fitness with the long and easy taper, but I will still go for sub-3.

#736- 8 mi with 5 mi at race pace
#737- 2 mi
#738 - 4 mi with 2 mi at race pace

Full taper now. May throw in some strides, but may hold off to go easy on the knee.

Wednesday - #458 - 2 miles, had to cut it short due to having to work a little late and then having some evening plans

Rich - have a great race. Can't wait to hear about it. I hope all goes well and that your knee never becomes a problem.

#739- 2 mi
#740- 3 mi, 6 x 100 m strides
#741- 2 mi

#742- 26.2 mi NYC Marathon (3:04:53)

5k- 00:20:54 10k -00:42:02 15k -01:03:08 20k- 01:24:34

13.1 mi 01:29:18 25k- 01:46:36 30k- 02:07:57

35k- 02:30:30 40k 02:54:21 Pace min/mi 07:04

Will get a race report up soon. Was a tough day. I was on pace for sub-3 up until just about the last 10k. I'm not going to blame the wind or the hills (it was REALLY windy though), I just needed to be injury free and have a bit more volume in my peak training.

I had a HARSH cramp near 22 -23 mi, I seriously thought someone kicked me hard in the back of the leg. I fell off pace at about mile 20, and decided to not listen to my body and "tried" to kick it into high gear for the last four miles which is when the cramp hit, so instead of subtracting 2 minutes from my projected finish time I probably added 2 minutes (I had some really rough splits over my last 4 miles as I shuffled it home)

Nice job Rich and yes you did have some tough conditions yesterday. I hear you about he cramp too, it happened to me in Boston this year. Well done and 3:04 in a great time.

#743- 2 mi, worst part was getting down the driveway (which is only about 30-40 feet with a very slight decline. Other than that I was ok. Avg pace 10:45 min/mi.

#744- 3 mi, feeling much better but still pretty sore

Posted up a race report if anyone interested:

Great RR Rich and again great job on the race. You will crush Boston and I am curious to hear you thoughts on the two races, which one you like better and why. Any questions about Boston just ask, I am no expert on the subject but I have ran it twice. This includes any logistics too.

Wow, Rich, amazing race. I would've probably had the same logistics issues you did, but I am glad you got there without too much worry/hassle. Congratulations.

Are you going to make Boston your spring goal? Or are you going to train for another IM at the same time? May be too early to think through that one yet, as it has only been a few days.

Thursday - #459 - 6 miles
Friday - #460 - 4 miles
Saturday - #461 - 4 miles
Sunday - #462 - 4 miles
Monday - #463 - 2 miles
Tuesday - #464 - 4 miles, then decided it was time to start biking regularly again with Trainer Road, so I did an hour at home to get going.

Time to burn off those few lbs I have gained since my last race. I haven't been doing any high intensity work to really burn them off, and despite increasing my run volume gradually, my overall workout volume has decreased.

My running streak came to and end, not even sure what day I was on.

My partner of 22 years collapsed from a heart attack a couple of weeks ago, she passed away this last Monday.

I am not certain if I will try this again or not. I have not run yet, going to try with a group I run with this Sunday.
I liked the changes this brought to my running I just don't know what anything will look like now.

I am on I think day 4 or 5, I started over again. I am running the Harrisburg marathon this weekend with a friend of mine, he is hoping to get in under 4 hours which I am sure he can but not so sure I can. Although my runs lately have been real good, I have my doubts, I will try and pace him though to get him and myself in under 4 hours. I have a disease though I think, while I was injured and not running and had no idea when I might start again, I signed up for a 50k in Ohio, The First Day Of Winter 50K, with some delusional thoughts of if I sign up for a race I will naturally get better. Back to the marathon though, if all goes well Sunday and I finish this will be my 25th marathon or longer race in less than 5 years. A quarter of the way to 100.

Mary,

I'm incredibly sorry to read that. My thoughts are with you and her family.

While I didn't worry too much about continuing my streak when my father passed in April (I did it somewhat coincidentally), I did find that running allowed me to escape some of my thoughts for a few miles at a time, and was a welcome relief in that regard. I don't know if it will work the same for you, but it may be worth an attempt.

Please let us know if there is anything any of us can do to assist.
