I slipped on the ice and broke my ankle just after I passed the 1 mile mark this morning. The bad news is, my streak ends at 379. The good news is that I got that mile in so today counted and it didn't end at 378.

Anyway, keep streaking, all. I'll check in from time to time, and I'll be streaking again the day the doctor tells me I can.

Day 12, 3.2 miles. The PF is still bothering me, it has kind stopped getting any better but it is not really getting any worse. I am a little leery of increasing my pace and mileage too much but will try for a little more speed and distance this week. Maybe one day faster and the next slower but longer to see how that goes. Still treating it very aggressively.
I've had PF before, I'm surprised you can run with it, at all! Be careful.

I need to get back to running so I am just sucking it up and hoping it gets better and not worse. Once I get going it is not bad until I get about 4 miles in or so or if I pick my pace up under 8:30 right now.

PF is horrible, my sympathies. I had cortisone shots which were also horrible but I'd get some relief for about 7 or 8 days. Then, after about a year of having PF...poof. Just like that, one day I woke up, and it was gone. It's weird like that. Hope you heal soon.

Today for me, 3.45 miles. Calves hurt. :/

Monday - #582 - 4 miles after swimming 2K yards, but this run was just brutal. I was way overheating despite an easy pace. So I had to break it up into 2 miles, a break, 1 mile, a break, and then 1 more mile.
Tuesday - #583 - 4 miles of speed work intervals, then 90 minutes on the bike

#62 - 4.0 miles. 1 mile warm up, 2 miles of .25 mile intervals, 1 mile cool down.
#62 - 3.0 miles easy

Wednesday - #584 - 4 miles easy followed by 1500y in the pool
Thursday - #585 - 4 miles progression run, felt surprisingly good at the end

I've been controlling my eating a little more in the last week (portion size, etc), and while I think I've lost *maybe* 2 lbs at the most, I just felt a lot better. Hopefully that continues.

BOOOOOO! Heal up Quick!

I have completed my 28 day run challenge and thank you for all the mojo! Heres how it breaks down for the last bit:

#20 2 miles on the mill
#21 2 miles post a CRUSHING bike power test (I'd been ready for a bump and took the frustration of a horrible Monday out on the pedals!) on the mill
#22 2 miles post a tempo workout on the bike at the new zones. Wow...gonna be interesting from here on out on the bike! Outside in the sun, but man it was still sooooo cold!
#23 2 miles in Scottsdale after a butt crack of dawn flight out there...sunny and 60! Whoo hooooo!
#24 2 miles from my friends house in Scottsdale with a few strides
#25 Phoenix Half Marathon. Great race, perfect weather decent time considering no speed work really this season at all.
#26 just to keep the streak alive, "ran" up the first mile of Pinnacle Peak hike trail and thought I would DIE! OY! Lungs burned as badly as when I'd done a cyclocross race lol! Somebody needs some hills! Hiked a total of 5 miles too.
#27 desert rains forced me back on the mill for 3 miles
#28 6.3 gorgeous miles out my Kona Crush's back door on part of the Javalina Hundred trail. Marie is 7.5 months pregnant, so we just trotted along. Probably the only time I'll ever be able to run with her lol.

We flew home on day 28 and all hell broke lose on the next day. Truly, when the vacation (which was so much fun) was over, it was OVER! I took the day off. Streak complete. Thanks so much for the mojo all!!!

Sorry to hear that. I'm not one to say something like "you're lucky, it could have been worse....you could have slipped and been knocked unconscious and then run over by a truck, so just remember how lucky you are..." It just pretty much plain sucks, sorry again. Hope to see you back as soon as you can.

Day 13, 4.2 miles

You can add me to the ranks of the walking-"ish" wounded. I'm still chugging along and trying to get all my workouts in, but my tendonitis issue isn't going away.

I probably share your frustration in that I can work my muscles harder. Even with the past few 60s-70s mile weeks my legs feel fresh enough, its just the tendon pain that is limiting me.

Once I run a mile or two, it settles down, but it is sore most of the day and even wakes me up at night a bit. I'm 99.9% sure of my self diagnosis and doing what I can. Every source says "rest" but I did that in December, and it went away, but came back. I have to figure out what is going on bio-mechanically and fix it. I'm going to work in a new pair of shoes since almost all of mine are well past their prime. I'm going to try to swing by a private owned running store where they do gait analysis and see if I can figure out what is going on (and give them business by hopefully picking up some shoes and maybe some gear). I also am doing icing and some self massage.

I hope I can push through and get my key workouts in over the next 3 weeks, then hopefully heal up a bit during my taper.

#863-14 mi treadmill, watched a movie

#864- 10 mi on trails in ankle to knee deep slush/snow, during some freezing rain/snow. I was wet, and pretty cold, and chunks of snow continuously got scooped into my shoes as I ran. I can see why gaiters are popular with trail running. All the uneven footing didn't do much for my knee either, but honestly all in all, it was pretty fun. And the hot shower when I got home was heavenly.

#865- 2 easy miles. Knee was angry.

#866- 6.2 mi with some threshold work. I ended on 4 miles at a 6:36 pace, which was about 10 seconds off of my goal of 6:26. I was on the treadmill too, so no excuse, I just wasn't thinking. I ran it on 9.1 mph and should have done 9.3 mph. It still felt fast enough though!

#867- 15 miles outside! It felt sort of warm earlier in the day, and I went out later in the afternoon (36 deg F). I underdressed, long sleeve compression top, and shorts. I thought I would warm up, but I didn't really. My hands were the coldest part, they kept going numb. Good run though, threw in a bit of a progression for the last 5 miles and finished near MP.

#868- 9.25 mi outside. In shorts again, this time not cold! Ran in new shoes. Hopefully will help my knee issue.

#869- 13.1 mi treadmill, watched a movie. Started in new shoes, switched to broken in ones.

Thanks for the support and kind words, all. Surgery is Wednesday and then I'll be in a cast for six weeks. I've had to drop out of my chef training program until I'm healed up. The doc said I shouldn't try to run until June and that I shouldn't plan on making running my primary sport again, at least for a while. That means swimming and probably joining a gym again (boo). If things go well, I may attempt a sprint tri in my hometown in December.

Friday - #586 - 4 miles
Saturday - #587 - 4 miles outside, and twisted my ankle pretty badly with about half a mile left. Managed to jog home a few minutes later. Definitely swelled quickly.
Sunday - #588 - Besides the swollen ankle, I also came down with a bad case of the flu. Managed to get into the gym and hobble out 2 miles easy (10 minute miles) on the treadmill. I can run on a treadmill because it is all straight line, doesn't seem to hurt the ankle. We'll see how long this swelling takes to go down.

Going to head off to the gym soon to try to push myself through another 2 miles. I've been on the couch and in bed constantly for almost 2 straight days now, and get chilled very easily. Worst I've felt physically in some time, but want to say I pushed through it in the long run.

I've been meaning to post in here. Today, 3.5 miles. Haven't been timing the past couple of runs, just enjoying them without the stress of trying to make a certain pace.

Tuesday - #590 - 2 more not very easy miles at a very slow pace. This flu is shifting symptoms, and now my whole body is essentially agitated to the touch. I do think I am recovering but have a ways to go yet. A little fear that I may develop bronchitis out of this, too.

There's my good news. Now I am off to a viewing, unfortunately. I'm just a ray of sunshine huh?
