Was in Hawaii for the last week I managed 2 trail runs, and one run in Kona along the IM course. Other than that, I was pretty busy with activities and touring. It was an amazing place to run though. We went from Maui to the Big Island, then to Oahu.
#1103- 2 mi
#1104- 4 mi trail
#1105- 11.5 mi trail, ran on some trails I haven't done before, nothing really special about them, but I still have some exploring to do in the area.
#1106- 2 mi very early, 3 am, then caught a flight to Maui
#1107- 2 mi hotel treadmill, had only about 2 hours before 12 midnight east coast time when I ran, making it the longest time between runs for the streak. Had to get it in quick to catch an awesome sunset on the beach
#1108- 10.5 mi trail. AWESOME run. I ran some of it with my brother. He lead me up some trails that run literally right out of his back yard. There is a small mountain, about 2500 ft, with some bigger ones behind them
(5000-6000ft
). I just ran up the small one. I got a bit lost on the way up. I should have stayed on a wider trail, but turned on a more narrow one that looked like it went up to the top in a shorter distance. It got very steep, and after a bit it closed up and I had to push through some tall
(over my head
) grass that sliced me up a bit. I was probably only 100ft from the top and I didn't want to turn back. I got up finally and had an awesome view. I also got lost on the way down, but it was a good time. I jumped in the ocean to cool off at the bottom.
#1109- 2 miles, treadmill at hotel. I would have loved to get out and run more outside, but I literally had a few minutes to get it in, we were pretty much out the door first thing in the morning and didn't come back until very late.
#1110- 7 mi in Kona. Ran along the IM World Championship route on Ali'i Drive. I didn't go all the way to the finish. I'd like to cross the finish one day and earn it for real. It was inspiring and made me want to get back to triathlon training.
#1111- 2 mi in Waikiki along shore. Same story, busy day, got in what I could.
#1112- 2 early morning miles in Waikiki. I had to get it done pre-dawn so we could get to Pearl Harbor before the crowds.
#1113- 2 mi early morning along beach in Waikiki, I also did a short run, maybe 2 or 3 miles along some trails that I hiked up with my family at Manoa Falls. I did an out and back along a trail that lead into the mountains from the falls as they hiked down. I caught them at the bottom. I am shocked that I didn't fall. It was muddy, and very slippery, and I had my Cliftons on, not my trail shoes. It was really nice. The trails had a very "Jurassic Park" look to them. There were towering trees with twisting trunks, vines that grew everywhere, ferns, some huge broad leaved plants. I also ran through some bamboo forested areas.
