Pre-race routine:

Had hot tea & Cliff bar @ hotel. Drove 45min to race site to meet up with relatives also running the HM. Picked up packet just in time to pin on race # for start.
Event warmup:

None. Just barely finished 'de-hydrating' before rush to start line.

Comments:

Very slow 1st mi (11min) due to packed slower runners on tight singletrack with no areas to pass. Route opened up ~mi 3 to wider packed gravel for next 4+mi. Heard others say this was only area to make up time & get position so I upped pace to 8:45-9min. Re-entered forest for rest of race. At 9.2mi slipped in mud & fell hard against roots. Got bruises & bad R calf cramp. That fall & 1 more really slowed rest of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Do some trail runs. Attempting 1st trail HM on ZERO trail training is not the best idea.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around finish area. Did some easy stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Complete lack of trail run training. Lack of local knowledge of course (trail conditions, hills, where to pass slower runners).

Event comments:

Only 2 aid stations on course (1 used twice). No port-a-lets on course (just the woods). Fun atmosphere- Woodstock theme with very good bands playing late 60's rock. The weekend long run festival had events from 5k to 100 mile runs.
