Did a dualthon on saturday. 5k run then 21 mile bike. Was very happy with the results. I went 19:23 on the run and 59 min on the bike. Was happy to go sub twenty.

I think I could have went under 19 but, backed off a tad to save the legs for the bike once I knew I was going to be under 20.

Cheers!

Nice job. Sub 20 is a barrier that I have missed by 8 seconds, 12 seconds, and 14 seconds.  UGGGHHHH!!!!!

Age is 28. Went fifth place overall and first in my AG. My previous best was a stand alone 5k race that was hilly as hell and 90 outside. That was 20:17 back in July. I just started running/biking back in march of this year.

Tri's are addicting are they not?!? I have one in October I may sign up for and try to do 18:??.

What was your athletic background prior to March of this year?

Awesome! I usually do about a 19:30 give or take for an open 5K... I've never been under 20 in a run split for a multi-sport event... that's awesome.

Envious. Good job!

I managed a sub-7:00 for a single mile last night, but that's a looooong way from getting back to doing sub-20:00 5k.
This is definitely one of my top goals over this winter.

Wow, congrats.  That's super fast standalone, forget about in a duathlon.

Starting running this March and sub 20 already?  Makes me think maybe genetics DO play a role in this sport!

The athletic background was from swimming ten years ago. Went to state in hs for swimming. Wanted to swim in college but, life happened. I dropped out of college and started my life as a blue collar steel mill worker and didn't do anything athletic after hs for the most part. Started swimming again in January and got this crazy idea to try out triathlons. Placed first in my ag at the first one I did and have not looked back since. IMWI next year...I want to Kona qualify but, have been told by some experienced friends that I should not go into my first IM expecting to think I can Kona qualify. I desperately want to prove them and my own doubts wrong! It is going to be a long year of training.

Glad there is lots of great supporting people on the bt forums trolling around!

Love being back in shape again!

You definitely have some sweet athlete genes!

Do you have a training plan for your sub20 5k?

I recently broke 25 (24:58) in a sprint tri and would love to go sub 20 in a standalone 5k.

But... well... look at my run from today.

I can't even do a 7:30min/mile for 2 miles.

Long story short any tips are appreciated!
